  1. Thanks for trying the Internet Control Center.  Please read this 
  2. important information before installing.
  3.  
  4. You must have the runtime library vbrun300.dll installed on
  5. your system before installing ICC.  Check in your windows/system
  6. directory.  If you don't have it, there is a copy available on
  7. our ftp site  ftp://ftp.usefulware.com/users/jfoltz.
  8.  
  9. You must have a working winsock program installed on your system.
  10. ICC is tailored especially for Trumpet and Chameleon, but will work 
  11. with any winsock, and has been used with SLIP emulators also.
  12.  
  13. It is very important that the the winsock and its associated 
  14. dialer/control program both be in your system path.  For example, if 
  15. you use Trumpet Winsock, the files winsock.dll, tcpman.exe, etc. should 
  16. be in a trumpet directory that is in the system path.
  17. I recommend against putting the winsock.dll in your windows or system 
  18. directories.  It should be kept with the rest of the winsock program.
  19. This will prevent some potential problems. If you have more than one
  20. winsock installed on your system, DO NOT have more than one in your
  21. system path at the same time.
  22.  
  23. ICC does NOT modify the autoexec.bat file or any other system files.
  24.  
  25. Before installing ICC, it is best to re-start Windows and run the setup
  26. before anything else. This will avoid potential errors with dll's
  27. being in memory from programs you ran recently.  If you do get such
  28. an error as "File In Use"  ignore it, it's harmless.  The setup program
  29. will not copy an older version of any file over a newer one you might 
  30. have already.
  31.  
  32. This program installs easily in the usual way.  Just dbl-click on the
  33. "setup.exe" found in the same directory as this file, using your file
  34. manager.  ICC will be installed in your Program Manager in its own
  35. group. Then of course you can drag it to any group you like.
  36.  
  37. A few people have reported installation problems with the file ddeml.dll.
  38. This is likely due to running WFWG on a LAN, and the ddeml is active.
  39. You may have to restart windows and install ICC before going online
  40. on the LAN.
  41.  
  42. The first time you run the program, the setup screen will appear first.
  43. The setup options are self-explanatory, and if you make a mistake, the
  44. program will tell you so.  To use the "connect-on-startup" option, you
  45. should have your winsock configured to connect automatically when
  46. loaded.  Many popular winsocks can do this.  If you are using Trumpet
  47. Winsock, ICC will set this option automatically after showing you
  48. the settings.  ICC also has an automatic connect/disconnect routine for
  49. Netmanage Chameleon, which does not have it built in as of this release.

  51. TRUMPET USERS:  Before using ICC, make sure that the last time you used
  52. Trumpet, you closed the program from the Trumpet window, and NOT from the
  53. Trumpet icon.  Trumpet has a habit of insisting on starting in 
  54. the same state as it was closed, even if the launching program asks for it
  55. to start as a window.  ICC must open Trumpet as a window, and not as an 
  56. icon, when using the Trumpet option in ICC setup.
  57.  
  58. Also, set the online status detection in Trumpet setup to NONE.  If
  59. your login script has a DCD check in it, this will usually conflict 
  60. with ICC's online check. You will know this if your login script
  61. stops without completing.  I have yet to see a script where you
  62. couldn't just disable the offending line and it works great.  If you
  63. see a line with   "dcd" or "dsr" that's the one.  Most of these are
  64. of the form "wait 30 dcd" telling Trumpet to wait 30 seconds for a
  65. dcd signal.  However, changing this to a straight wait without the
  66. dcd  ("wait 2") will usually work if you MUST have a delay.  Normally
  67. you don't need it at all.  (Trumpet script lines are disabled by
  68. putting a # at the beginning of the line.)
  69.  
  70. Finally, set the dialer options in Trumpet to "Automatic Login and
  71. Logout on Demand".
  72.  
  73. Due to the wide variation in Trumpet login scripts, sometimes unforeseen
  74. problems occur.  We have always been able to remedy them so far.  IF YOUR
  75. LOGIN SCRIPT WILL NOT complete, when emailing the author for help, PLEASE
  76. attach a copy of your login.cmd and trumpwsk.ini., with any passwords 
  77. edited out before mailing.  It is also helpful if you rename the files
  78. to something like myname.ini and myname.cmd.
  79.  
  80. CHAMELEON USERS:  Before using ICC, turn OFF the Carrier Detect in the 
  81. Chameleon setup options.  ICC's detection will conflict with this, and
  82. will not allow your login script to complete properly.  ICC cannot set
  83. this option for you because Netmanage has decided to encrypt all their 
  84. configuration files.
  85.  
  86. *** VERY IMPORTANT ***  
  87. For the online status light, and the connect/disconnect to work properly
  88. your modem must be properly set.  The DCD (Data Carrier Detect) signal
  89. must be set to be active only during connect.  On Hayes-compatible modems
  90. the command to put in your modem string is &C1.  Some modems use this as
  91. the factory default, and some do not. 
  92.  
  93. The other important modem setting is the DTR (Data Terminal Ready) mode.
  94. It should be set to disconnect your modem when the DTR signal goes off.
  95. The command for Hayes-compatible modems is &D2.   Thus to be safe,
  96. just add the string &C1&D2 to whatever modem string you are currently
  97. using.  There should be a setting in your winsock dialer program for the
  98. modem initialization string.

  103. If you would like a really cool sound intro to play when ICC
  104. starts up, download the file wave.zip from our ftp site
  105. and unzip it into the icc directory.  It will play automatically
  106. when ICC is started.  We didn't include it because of the size, 
  107. and some users won't want it.  ICC uses the Windows MCI sound 
  108. driver.
