  1. To install vpic for easier use follow these instructions.
  2.

  4. Make a subdirectory on your hard disk.  Type
  5.  
  6. MKDIR c:\vpic
  7.  
  8. This creates a subdirectory to hold your vpic files.  
  9.

  12. Copy all the vpic files to the subdirectory with the following command, where X
  13. is your CDROM drive letter
  14.  
  15. copy X:\vpic\*.* c:\vpic
  16.  
  17. This puts all the vpic files into the subdirectory on your hard disk.

  21. You should now read the vpic install documentation.  This explains how
  22. to select the right video card for your computer for vpic.  Vpic will
  23. work the way it is, but will give better performance if you run the vpic
  24.  
  25. config
  26.  
  27. program.  This lets you select the right video card for your computer.  You
  28. have to do this on your hard disk, since you can't write to the CDROM drive.
  29.

  32. Then you can put this subdirectory "on your path."  Use an *editor*, not a word
  33. processor, and edit your autoexec.bat:
  34.  
  35. edit c:\autoexec.bat
  36.  
  37. This uses the editor that comes with dos 6.  If you don't use this editor, be
  38. sure to save the autoexec.bat as an ASCII file, or you will NOT be able to boot
  39. your computer again.  If you are unsure about this, leave this step OUT.

  41. If you did this, then reboot your computer now so the changes take effect.
  42. Remember, this step can be dangerous and is not essential to get full use out
  43. of this disc.

  47. Now go back to the CDROM drive by typing the drive letter of your CDROM
  48. drive:

  54. Change directories into a directory where you want to view the images.

  58. or type

  60. cd \images\dogs

  65. If you edited your autoexec.bat, then you should be able to simply type

  67. vpic

  69. and be able to view the images.

  71. If you didn't, then you'll have to type the whole path where vpic is.  There is
  72. a copy on the CDROM in \vpic and there is a copy on your hard disk in \vpic.

  78. and enjoy the pictures!
