  35. WHAT IS SERACTAL SCREENSAVER
  36. ----------------------------

  38. Seractal ScreenSaver is a 32bit Windows 95 screensaver.
  39.  
  40. Seractal uses the beauty of fractals to create stunning full-screen designs
  41. while you are not using your computer.
  42.  
  43. A new new fractal starts drawing a few minutes after the last one is drawn.
  44.  
  45. Supports 16 color VGA, 256 color SVGA, and 24-bit color.

  48. INSTALLATION FROM ZIP FILE
  49. --------------------------
  50.  
  51. If you have received a zip file which does not contain an automatic
  52. installation program, then use the following steps to install Seractal:
  53.  
  54. 1. From the directory you have decompressed into, copy the file seractal.scr
  55.    into your windows\system directory, usually c:\windows\system.
  56.  
  57. 2. Click on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
  58.  
  59. 3. Double click on the Display icon.
  60.  
  61. 4. Click on the Screensaver tab.
  62.  
  63. 5. In the Screen Saver list, select Seractal.
  64.  
  65. 6. Click Preview to run the screensaver.
  66.  
  67. 7. Press Settings to display registration and support details, and access
  68.    configuration options.
  69.  
  70.  
  71. Once you have Seractal running, you do not need to keep the other files on
  72. your system. i.e. you just need seractal.scr installed in your Windows or
  73. Windows\System directory.
  74.  
  75. SETUP OPTIONS
  76. -------------
  77.  
  78. Configuration options are available from the Control Panel/Desktop/Setup
  79. screen by pressing the Options button.
  80.  
  81. HIDE MOUSE
  82.     Selecting this option means the mouse cursor will disappear while the
  83.     screensaver is running.
  84.  
  85. STAY ON TOP
  86.     This is useful when you have a menu bar, clock, or other program which
  87.     normally stays visible over all other windows, including screensavers.
  88.     Select this option to have Seractal cover these windows. Its use is not
  89.     recommended if you have other programs running which can periodically
  90.     display a message (such as Mail, a Reminder or other scheduled program),
  91.     as you will not see these messages. Also in these cases, the other program
  92.     will have control of the keyboard, even though it is not visible, so
  93.     pressing Escape will clear the message rather than stopping Seractal, and
  94.     you will not get to see the message.

  96. IGNORE MOUSE FOR WAKE-UP
  97.     Selecting this option means only use of the keyboard will stop the
  98.     screensaver. It's useful if your mouse likes to move of its own accord, or
  99.     is easily bumped. Not recommended if you are also using Stay on Top.

  102. RUNTIME OPTIONS
  103. ---------------
  104.  
  105. While the screensaver is running, the following keys can be used:
  106.  
  107. F5   The current drawing will Finish.
  108.  
  109. o    Displays an order form, which can be printed.
  110.  
  111. p    Pressing p will cause Seractal to pause at the end of the current
  112.      drawing,  and not continue until you press 'p' again. This is useful, for
  113.      example,if Seractal is drawing something slowly, and you would like to
  114.      see how it ends up, but you have to leave the room for a while. Or if you
  115.      would like the chance to copy it to the clipboard when it's finished
  116.      before it gets overwritten. It doesn't pause immediately, but at the end
  117.      of the current drawing. When you have finished with the paused screen,
  118.      press 'p' again to start Seractal off again.
  119.  
  120. +    If you are running in 256 color mode, then Seractal uses 'sliding' colors
  121.      to animate the image. Pressing + will increase the speed of the
  122.      animation.
  123.  
  124. -    Decreases the speed of the animation.
  125.  
  126. n    Stops all animation for the current run. Useful if it is too distracting
  127.      while you work.

  129. SAVING IMAGES
  130. -------------
  131.  
  132. Pressing the PrintScreen function key will copy the full screen to the
  133. clipboard, and you can then paste that into a paint program and save or
  134. print the image.

  140. REGISTRATION
  141. ------------

  143. Seractal ScreenSaver is time-limited "try before you buy" software, and is
  144. provided with a 14-day evaluation period. After 14 days, Seractal will no
  145. longer create fractals, but will display an order form.
  146.  
  147. On receipt of your registration fee, you will be mailed, faxed or emailed a
  148. code which will allow the program the resume displaying fractals. This
  149. registration code is entered into the Registration field on the Setup screen.
  150.  
  151. Your support through registration is appreciated and will encourage the
  152. development of additional graphics and features.
  153.  
  154. If you wish to use Seractal after 14 days, please send a cheque for
  155. US$19.50 (or its equivalent in your currency) to:

  172. on a US Bank. EuroCheques must be in your own currency, not $US or Australian.

  176. A printable order form in WordPad format is in the file order.doc. An order
  177. form can also be displayed and printed from the Control Panel Setup screen, or
  178. by pressing 'o' while Seractal is running.

  180. In order to keep the cost of Seractal low, diskettes are not sent.
  181.  
  182. These prices and conditions are valid until 30th June 1998 for this version,
  183. and are subject to change with future versions.

  185. If you have already paid a fee to others (eg disk or CD vendors) to obtain
  186. this evaluation copy, that fee was for their copying and distribution
  187. services, rather than a payment for continued use of the program, and the
  188. software author does not receive any part of that fee.
