  1.                      BTcreate/BTsource features list

  4. BTsource and BTcreate are designed to create and maintain DDF (dictionary) 
  5. and Btrieve files. BTsource creates and maintains the source information 
  6. necessary to describe the Btrieve file you want to create while BTcreate 
  7. uses that information to create the files.
  8. BTsource contains all the information necessary to use both programs as on-
  9. line help. Be sure to read all the screens shown by the "About" function 
  10. from the main menu of BTsource as well as the F1 and F2 help screens.

  13. C-Soft, Inc. recommends that you BACKUP any existing DDFs that you intend 
  14. to access with BTcreate.
  15.  
  16. IMPORTANT: YOU MUST RUN THE SETUP BATCH FILE PRIOR TO USING BTsource AND
  17.            BTcreate.

  20. The following is a list of features:
  21.  
  22. 1- Create and initialize dictionary files if not already present.
  23. 2- Create and maintain description information (source information).
  24. 3- Create Btrieve files using the source information.
  25. 4- Print a complete file layout (with or without field notes) using LPT1.
  26. 5- Keep track of multiple groups (based on application ID) of multiple file 
  27. layouts.
  28. 6- Add application IDs to list by editing BTAPPIDS.TXT with a text editor.
  29. 7- Keep track of multiple versions of a given file in a given application 
  30. group.
  31. 8- Create Btrieve files from the BTcreate interface or via its command line 
  32. parameters (invoke BTcreate with -? or /? for details).
  33. 9- Create source information for documentation only.(may be layouts of non-
  34. Btrieve files in this case).
  35. 10-Duplicate a complete file layout by incrementing the version number of an 
  36. existing file layout (useful during development while file layouts are 
  37. still dynamic).
  38. 11- Centralize creation and maintenance of source information for 
  39. consistency and security while creation of files is performed by a program 
  40. (BTcreate) with only read ability as far as source information is 
  41. concerned.
  42. 12- Create "C" header files by selecting an application; if header file
  43. specified already exists, you may select to overwrite it or append to it.

  45. NOTE: Be sure to try BTcreate's companion product, BTedit. BTedit is a 
  46. Btrieve file editor/browser utility specifically designed for software 
  47. developers and QA/support staff who work with Btrieve.
