OCR: DAVID MACH SCOTLAND COME TALK TO ME Since graduating ten years ago from the Royal College of Art David Mach has created an impressive body of work that critiques the excesses of consumer society. Combining aspects of performance and conceptual art with traditional sculptural language, Mach's large outdoor installations are often assembled by piling up or stacking identical mass-produced objects such as magazines, bottles, tyres and books. Mach transforms these familiar materials into recognisable objects ù tyres become a submarine, books become a Rolls Royce. Many of Mach's installations have no lasting life or commercial value. Dismantled following the period of its exhibition, it remains only as a memory and idea. Mach does not work in a studio and does not use traditional artist materials. His venue becomes his workplace and ultimately determines the shape and frequently also the content of his art. He has created spectacular installations all around the world, including Japan, USA and Australia
