  4.  THE INTERNET CRUISE
  5.  
  6.  Merit's "Cruise of the Internet" is a computer-based tutorial for new
  7.  as well as experienced Internet "navigators."  The Cruise will introduce
  8.  you to Internet resources as diverse as supercomputing, minorities,
  9.  multimedia, and even cooking. It will also provide information about the
  10.  tools needed to access those resources.

  12.  The Cruise is designed to run on either Macintosh or DOS-compatible
  13.  computers that meet the following specifications:

  15.  Mac - A Macintosh II, LC or Quadra series computer
  16.      - 8-bit color and any color monitor  (12" minimum)
  17.      - System 6.05 or 7.x
  18.      - Approximately 3 MB of disk space
  19.      - 4 MB RAM is recommended
  20.  
  21.  DOS - An IBM-DOS or DOS-compatible computer
  22.      - XGA- or XGA-compatible adapter set to display 256 colors at 640x480
  23.      - Microsoft Windows(TM) version 3.1 running in enhanced mode
  24.      - Approximately 1.5 MB of disk space
  25.      - 2 MB RAM minimum

  27.  The Cruise does not require Internet connectivity in order to run, but
  28.  you must have connectivity in order to obtain a copy of it for your
  29.  own use. You may obtain the instructions for downloading it via email,
  30.  but you cannot obtain the Cruise itself via email. Use FTP to get a copy 
  31.  of the Cruise (DOS users must remember to give the "binary" command before
  32.  transferring the file; Mac users with Internet connectivity may prefer to 
  33.  use Fetch instead of FTP).

  35.  If your Mac/PC doesn't have direct connectivity, but you have an account 
  36.  on another computer that is connected, you may still be able to get the
  37.  Cruise.  Use FTP to get a copy of the Cruise on your account (DOS users 
  38.  must still give the "binary" command before transferring the file). If
  39.  you don't already know how to download the file from that computer to your
  40.  own computer, contact your local help-desk.  You should tell the
  41.  consultant that you FTP'ed a program to their computer and that you need
  42.  help downloading it from there to your own computer.

  44.  Detailed instructions for obtaining the Cruise over the net may be
  45.  obtained by sending email to nic-info@nic.merit.edu with either
  46.               get merit.cruise2.mac.readme

  48.               get merit.cruise2.win.readme
  49.  as the text body.  Alternatively, you may use Anonymous FTP to retrieve
  50.  the same files from the /internet/resources/cruise.mac and
  51.  /internet/resources/cruise.dos directories, respectively.  See above for
  52.  more information about using these tools.

  54.  If you can't get the Cruise directly from the online archive, you have
  55.  one other option.  The Cruise is available on 1.44MB HD diskettes for
  56.  both DOS and Mac for $10.00 per copy.  Send your name and address,
  57.  specify the operating system, and include a check or money order (payable
  58.  to "University of Michigan") or your VISA/MasterCard number (including
  59.  the expiration date and your signature) to:
