  9. addresses is noted. This section also includes a listing of Campus Wide
  10. Information Systems, which often provide access to campus libraries and
  11. regional networks that can help locate e-mail addresses.

  60. KNOWBOT - Online E-mail Directory
  61.         Knowbot is a 'master directory' that contains e-mail address information
  62. from the NIC WHOIS database, the CSNET WHOIS database, the PSI White Pages
  63. Pilot Project, the NYSERNET X.500 database and MCI Mail. Most of these
  64. services which make up KNOWBOT are e-mail registries themselves, however
  65. Knowbot provides a very easy to use access point for all of these services.

  75. NICNAME/WHOIS: RFC 954 Description of the WHOIS protocol and service.
  76.         The NICNAME/WHOIS Server is a TCP transaction-based query/response
  77. server, running on the SRI-NIC machine (26.0.0.73 or 10.0.0.51), that
  78. provides netwide directory service to Internet users.  It is one of a series
  79. of Internet name services maintained by the DDN Network Information Center
  80. (NIC) at SRI International on behalf of the Defense Communications Agency
  81. (DCA).  The server is accessible across the Internet from user programs
  82. running on local hosts, which SURAnet provides. Queries provide full name,
  83. U.S. mailing address, telephone number, and network mailbox for DDN users who
  84. are registered in the NIC database.

  88. Net Mail Hosts Database - Merit
  89.         This NetMail Hosts database is able to list both Bitnet and UUCP
  90. addresses for a particular site. Queries are limited to three per session.

  94. NetFind - Michael Schwartz, University of Colorado, Boulder
  95.         NetFind is a prototype tool that provides a simple Internet "white
  96. pages" directory facility. Given the name of a user and a rough description of
  97. where the user works (e.g., the company name or city), NetFind attempts to
  98. locate telephone and e-mail info about the user. At present, the NetFind
  99. utilizes information from USENET news messages, the Domain Naming System, 
  100. the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, and the "finger" protocol.

  114. PARADISE Directory Service
  115.         PARADISE, the COSINE X.500 Directory Service pilot, was launched in
  116. November 1990 to coordinate an international directory service for the
  117. European research and development community. The Directory Enquiries Service
  118. is a public access interface to the Directory. The directory service helps you
  119. find out information about people and the organizations they work for. In
  120. particular it can provide electronic mail addresses, postal addresses,
  121. telephone and fax numbers. There are currently 28 countries, over 2500
  122. organizations, and over 750,000 individual entries participating.

  127.         An online directory of information on individuals. Lists name,
  128. organization, and e-mail address. Accessed by name within area or

  152. Campus Wide Information Systems (CWIS) List
  153.         A list of CWIS sites in the United States, Canada, Germany, Sweden, and
  154. the United Kingdom. This list is also a good starting point for locating an
  155. individual's e- mail address, telephone number, or mail address. Many
  156. of these sites allow access to campus libraries, regional networks, and
  157. other information systems.
