- News groups
- Similar to newspapers, and bulletins, the network has a News facility for
- users to seek, or exchange informations, opinions and ideas with other network
- users without the geographical restriction. It provides an open forum for its
- users to participate in open discussions.
-
- News consists of over 800 ongoing discussions (news groups). Each news
- group refers to a particular topic. It contains articles, or news items
- related to that topic either sent or posted to the newsgroup by
- individual users.

- A bulletin board is a shared file where users may enter information
- for others to read and download. An example of a bulletin board is the
- Economic Bulletin Board available at the University of Michigan in the USA.
- This is one of the many bulletin boards available on the network.
- The Economic Bulletin Board contains over 700 files from the Commerce
- Department's Economic Bulletin Board, Census STF1A summaries for all
- 2000 counties, places and minor civil divisions in Michigan, and library
- catalogs from around the world can now be accessed through Internet and
- Michnet via the University of Michigan Library's new GOPHER system.
-
- The EBB files are updated daily and include 17 areas related to the U.S.
- economy, among them the gross domestic product, consumer price index,
- treasury bill rates, unemployment, and Trade Opportunity Program
- announcements. Additional Census files include selected U.S. summaries and
- CD-ROM guides. STF3A summaries for Michigan may be added this fall.
