     Purpose: To distribute the monthly Hack Report, which is an
     informational newsletter which warns of hacked, hoax, Trojan Horse,
     and pirated files that have been seen posted on BBS systems worldwide.
     The Hack Report is very biased towards MS-DOS programs.  The Hack
     Report is also readily available through Fidonet or via anonymous FTP.

    Purpose: The HaDiKo list is a forum for current and past members of
    the HaDiKo, a student's community college in the city of Karlsruhe,

    Purpose: The Handicap Digest provides an information/discussion
    exchange for issues dealing with the physically/mentally

    education, legal, technological aids and the handicapped in
    society.

    Note: The articles from the Handicap Digest are also posted in the
    Usenet Newsgroup, "misc.handicap".

HANDS

    Purpose: The HANDS e-mail list is a list compiled by Hands Off
    Washington-University of Washington chapter.  This list tells
    people when our next meetings are, provides info. on upcoming
    events such as rallies, speakers, etc. and provides a chance for
    people to read selected forwarded newsbriefs from Washington state
    as well as other parts of the country.

    The main purpose is to keep people up to date on activities planned
    by HOW-UW and to inform people about the agenda of the Citizen's
    Alliance of Washington (CAW) and other discriminatory organizations.

Hartford Whalers

    Purpose: Discussion of the Hartford Whalers hockey club and any
    tangential discussions which emerge.

    Purpose: Discussion and worship of Jimi Hendrix and his music.
    Although Jimi has been dead for about 2 decades, we feel that
    his music is still worthy to be recognized.  Prerequisite to
    joining: appreciation for his music.

Hindu Digest

    Purpose: Hindu dharma (religious philosophy and way of life) is
    followed by over 650 million people in the world.  Prominent among
    its teaching are the acceptance of various religious paths, and
    the spirit of universal family.

    The Hindu Digest is a forum to discuss various Hindu doctrines as
    they are applicable to day to day living.  We also discuss various
    issues that affect Hindu perspective, war and peace, human rights
    and participation of Hindus in political process to promote the
    universal ideals mentioneed above.  It is also a forum for cultural
    news about Hindus from around the world.

Historic Costume
     Contact: [e-mail]

     Purpose: This list concentrates on recreating period elegance, from
     the Bronze age to the mid-20th Century.  Its emphasis is on accurate
     historical reproduction of clothing, historical techniques for
     garment construction, and the application of those techniques in
     modern clothing design.  Other topics appropriate for discussion
     include adapting historical clothing for the modern figure, clothing
     evolution, theatrical costumes, patterns, materials, books, and
     sources for supplies.  Members of the SCA should note that this list
     discusses historic costume of all eras, not just the SCA period.
     General conversations about the SCA are not suitable for this list.
     Other topics not suitable for this list include halloween and
     children's dress-up costumes, and advertisements for vintage clothing
     (for sale or wanted).

HIWAYMEN

    Purpose: Discussion of the Highwaymen - Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings,
    Johnny Cash & Kris Kristofferson.  Subjects range from their music,
    lives, wives and movies.

HIX
    Contact: [e-mail]

    Purpose: Hollosi Information eXchange. A mail server to provide
    information about Hungarian electronic resources, discussion lists,
    newsletters, etc.  Information is in Hungarian.

    The subject and the content of the letter is ignored.
    The returned help file lists subscription and other commands.

HOA-List
    Contact: [e-mail]

    Purpose: For home owners associations (HOA), owners, residents
    in planned unit developments, condos, townhouses, etc.  List members
    are asked to agree to some simple guidelines before joining the
    group.  For more info and guidelines, email to contact with
    'help' as the first word of your message.

hockey-goalie
    Contact: [e-mail]

    Purpose: This is a mailing list for ice hockey goalies of all levels.
    It is intended to bring together goalies from all over the world, and
    be used as a forum for discussing equipment, technique, strategy, and
    so forth.

    hockey-goalie", in the body of the message.

HOCKEY-L

    Purpose: HOCKEY-L is for the discussion of collegiate ice hockey,
    including scores, team info, schedules, etc., allowing fans to
    become more involved and knowledgeable about the game.

    Substantial information is available via HOCKEY-L subscription,
    including current year Division I team and composite schedules
    and scores, and other college and Olympic hockey information as
    assembled or created by the subscribers.  In-season postings
    include all Division I scores and descriptions of most games.
    Division II, III, and Club hockey discussions are welcome.

Holocaust Information

    Purpose: The Holocaust Information list is devoted to Holocaust
    research, and the refutation of those who deny the event.
    Subscriptions to the list are available by invitation.
    The list is published as a moderated digest.

    Topics within the scope of the list include: World-wide racial
    supremacy organizations and activities, world-wide neo-nazi
    organizations and activities, Holocaust denial via electronic
    networking, including but not limited to FidoNet, UseNet, InterNet,
    Prodigy, GEnie, CompuServe, etc., and the notification all list
    members when a new bulletin board, fax forwarding, or voice-mail
    organization is identified as representing the views of the
    various organizations noted above, including The Institute for
    Historical Review (IHR), Christian Identity, Aryan Nation,
    America First Committee, Liberty Lobby and activities of well-
    known folks like Willy Carto, David Irving, and many, many others.

    As bandwidth restrictions are ever a consideration, membership in
    the list is limited to those who can provide either research,
    editing, or writing skills to the projects undertaken. If you are

    Purpose: This mailing list is for the discussion of all aspects
    and methods of home education.  These include the "unschooling"
    approach, curricula-based home-schooling, and others.  The list
    is currently unmoderated and welcomes everyone interested in
    educating their children at home, whatever the reasons.

home-ed-politics

    Purpose: To discuss political issues dealing with home education.
    This includes government intrusion into families, public schooling
    as it influences home education, legislation in various states & the
    federal level, etc.  This list is managed by listproc.

homebrew

    Purpose: Forum on Beer, homebrewing, and related issues. Though
    mainly intended for discussion of beer making, also welcome are
    discussions on making cider, mead, wine, or any other fermented
    (but not distilled) beverage. Beginners are welcomed as well
    as experienced brewers.

Honda-L

    Purpose: HONDA-L is dedicated to the discussion of all Honda and Acura
    automobiles, past and present. The list is moderated and digested with
    topics varying from repairs to pricing information.

    Purpose: Discussion of things equestrian.  Horse enthusiasts of
    all disciplines and levels of experience are welcome.  Articles
    are distributed periodically in digest format, and also appear
    individually in the Usenet newsgroup "rec.equestrian".

hotrod

    Purpose: The mailing list [e-mail] is chartered to provide
    a forum for people interested in high performance vehicles to
    exchange ideas and discuss topics of current interest.  This list
    is chartered as broadly as possible consistent with noise supression.
    Explicitly acceptable is any discussion regarding increasing the
    performance of any vehicle with more than three wheels.

    Include on the Subject: line the keyword "subscribe" and a
    return path to your site.

hp9000-500

    Purpose: Get help on porting software to this dated machine, and discuss
    the HP 9000 series 500.

hpux-admin (HP-UX Administrators Mailing List)
    Contact: [e-mail]

    Purpose: To discuss matters related to HP-UX System Administration.

    Commands should be sent in the body of an email message to
    "[e-mail]" or to "[e-mail]".

    Problems, questions, suggestions and the like should go to the address
    "[e-mail]".

HTMARCOM
    Contact: [e-mail] (Kim M. Bayne)

    Purpose: To discuss High Tech MARketing COMmunications as it relates
    to Computer and Electronics products and services and to share
    information on resources available to High Tech MARcommunicators.
    Level of discussion varies from basic how-to-do-it to high-level
    marketing strategy in the Computer and Electronics industries.

    HTMARCOM posts a monthly online newsletter containing articles,
    job listings, product reviews, media changes, conferences and
    seminars. Resource lists and past newsletters are also available
    to list subscribers in the HTMARCOM archives.

huskers

    Purpose: This lists provides coverage of University of Nebraska
    sports.  The major in-season sports (football, basketball) will
    likely make up the majority of posts, but other sports are likely
    to be mentioned from time to time, depending on the interest.
    Other items likely to be of interest to NU alums or Cornhusker
    fans may also appear.

hyperami

    Purpose: For informal product discussion and mutual assistance
    concerning AmigaVision, CanDo, DeluxeVideo III, Director 2,
    Foundation, Hyperbook, InterActor, PILOT, ShowMaker, TACL,
    Thinker, and VIVA.

    give a one-line message asking "subscribe hyperami."

    This list is separate from the Usenet newsgroup comp.sys.amiaga.
    multimedia but material from the list may occasionally be posted
    to the newsgroup.

    where you substitute your own values for the <> delimited items
    (include the period at the end of the line).

    Subject: Add <firstname-lastname> '<' <user>@<domain> '>' to
    <mail-list-name-without-domain>.
    For example: Subject: Add Joe Smith <[e-mail]> to hyperbole.

    Purpose: Hyperbole is for discussion of the Hyperbole systems and the
    related topics of hypertext and information retrieval.

    Hyperbole-announce announces new releases and bug fixes for
    Hyperbole.  Anyone on hyperbole is automatically subscribed to
    hyperbole-announce., so you should request subscription to only
    one of the two lists.

    Hyperbole is a flexible hypertext manager developed at Brown
    University that sits atop of GNU Emacs and provides efficient
    point-and-click information access and full customizability in GNU
    Emacs Lisp.  Hyperbole allows hypertext buttons to be embedded within
    unstructured and structured files, mail messages and news articles.
    It also provides point-and-click access to ftp archives, Wide Area
    Information Servers (WAIS), and the World-Wide Web (WWW) hypertext
    system.

hyperchem

    Purpose: The group is designed for, but not limited to, HyperChem
    users.  Any and all scientific and technical issues related to the use
    of HyperChem are appropriate for discussion on this group.

    The group is unmoderated, so that any message sent to the group is

IAMS (Internet Amateur Mathematics Society)

    Purpose: A read-only listserv where messages from the International
    Arctic Project (IAP) will be posted during its 1994 spring training
    expedition.  The IAP is an international team of explorers and
    scientists, led by polar explorer Will Steger, who will travel and
    do research in the Canadian Arctic this spring, in preparation for a
    major expedition across the North Pole in spring 1995.  The team is
    due to leave Yellowknife (Northwest Territories, Canada) on March 13,
    1994, and the expedition is expected to conclude June 10, 1994.

    Purpose: IBDlist is a moderated mailing list which discusses all
    aspects of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, with particular emphasis
    on Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis.  Anyone with an
    interest in these diseases, whether direct or indirect is welcome.
    This list will also act as a clearinghouse for information and
    discussion of current treatments, research, and other information
    related to IBDs.  This list is open to any interested party and is
    not restricted to those with a direct link to IBD.

IBMTCP-L

    IBMTCP-L is intended for discussion of the IBM TCP/IP software
    products for VM, MVS, OS/2 and for associated IBM TCP/IP hardware

    Purpose: To update and relay information regarding the CCI/ICL
    processors, including information on product updates, product problems,
    service problems and information, system options, and information on
    CCI/ICL from "off-line" sources (i.e. inside "scoops" direct from
    "hidden" CCI/ICL sources.

IDM (Intelligent Dance Music)

    Purpose: The IDM list is for the discussion of the form of electronic
    music that has been coined "Intelligent Dance Music" by a British music
    magazine and "Electronic Listening Music" by a label promoting the new
    genre.  Artists in this vein include Richard D. James (Aphex
    Twin/Polygon Window), Black Dog Productions, B12, C.J. Bolland,
    Plastikman, Future Sound of London/Amorphous Androgynous.  Discussion
    and reviews on the list also cover other ambient and trance music, to
    some extent.

IDOL

    Purpose: The idol-group is an unmoderated mailing list for people
    interested in the Idol language.  Idol, an "Icon-derived object
    language," is "an object-oriented extension and environment for
    the Icon programming language." The idol-group is a forum for
    discussing Idol programming, object-oriented programming, and Idol
    implementation issues.  It is also a place to exchange Idol
    classes and programs, contributing to the library of useful Idol
    code.

Igor

    Purpose: To provide an easy means for users of Igor to share
    problems and solutions, as well as for potential users to seek
    opinions on the utility and performance of the application.

    Igor is a data plotting/analysis package for the Apple Macintosh.

    (note, that's a zero in the ftp sitename, not an uppercase 'o'!)

IHP-NET

    Purpose: IHP-NET is an Internet electronic forum for dialogue and
    resource sharing among persons of all religious traditions, regarding
    the dynamic relationship between spirituality and health, especially
    its practical expression in the advancement of human wellness.

    laser printers.  Any discussion pertaining to Imagen printers is

    LAN attachment capabilities, imPRESS programming, or methods used
    to create spooling and accounting software.

Imagine

    Purpose: The IML is dedicated to the 3D computer rendering
    package "Imagine" by Impulse Inc. Currently this package is
    available on the Amiga computer and for MS-DOS.  Subject matter
    spans most areas and packages in 3D rendering, but mostly in
    comparison to Imagine.  There are many professional artists
    using the IML, and the tone is light and friendly.  All levels
    of knowledge and experience are welcome here and everyone is
    encouraged to participate.  We have held contests, and a frequently
    asked questions list and full archives since the Lists inception
    in January 1991 are available upon request.  Merely send a note to
    the above address with the word "subscribe" in the subject line.

    NOTE: BANG STYLE addressing is not supported, so please include

    Purpose: A support group for people with immune-system breakdowns
    (and their symptoms) such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Lupus,
    Candida, Hypoglycemia, Multiple Allergies, Learning Disabilities,
    etc, and their SO's, medical caretakers, etc.  The group is
    unmoderated and open to anyone anywhere in the world (no arguments
    about whether or not these disabilities exist).

improv

    Purpose: Questions, comments, and bug-reports relating to the
    Improv spreadsheet for NeXTSTEP and Windows, published by Lotus
    Corp.  Some mail includes attachments that may be read with mail
    readers compatible with the NexT Computer's NeXTmail format.

    Purpose: A low-volume list for users of the LPC Mpulse line of
    computers.  The moderator does filter and journalize submissions.

INDEX-L

    Purpose: Discussion of good indexing practice by providing a
    forum through which professional and aspiring indexers can share
    information and ideas relating to the intellectural, philosophical,
    and technical aspects of index preparation.  Some recent participants
    include professional indesers, members of the American Society of
    Indexers (ASI), librarians, library school faculty and students,
    information access professionals, hypertext and database developers,
    and authors indexing their own work.

indigo-girls

    Purpose: Discussion of Indigo Girls and related artists' music, tour
    dates, concert reviews, etc.  Both regular and digest formats are
    available -- please specify when sending a "subscribe me" message.
    digest format gets you one message a day, regular gets you each
    message as it is sent to the list.

    Purpose: SPIE's Adaptive Optics Listserver is a moderated electronic
    discussion list addressing issues related to adaptive optics. The
    listserver is open to anyone interested in adaptive optics; however,
    it is not to be used for commercial purposes, such as advertising

    from another member of the group.

    Purpose: SPIE's Biomedical Optics Listserver is a moderated electronic
    discussion list addressing issues related to biomedical optics. The
    listserver is open to anyone interested in biomedical optics; however,
    it is not to be used for commercial purposes, such as advertising
    products or services, except in connection with an information request
    from another member of the group.

    Purpose: SPIE's Electronic Imaging Listserver is a moderated
    electronic discussion list addressing issues related to electronic
    imaging. The listserver is open to anyone interested in electronic

    Purpose: Info-LabVIEW is an internet mailing list for the discussion
    of the use of National Instruments' LabVIEW package for Macintosh,
    Windows and Sparcstation environments.

    LabVIEW is a graphical software system for developing high-performance
    scientific and engineering applications. LabVIEW acquires data from
    IEEE-488 (GPIB), RS-232/422 and modular (VXI or CAMAC) instruments
    and plug-in data acquisition boards.

    LabVIEW programs, called "virtual instruments" (VIs), are created
    using icons, instead of conventional, text-based code. A VI consists
    of a front panel and a block diagram. The front panel (with knobs,
    switches, graphs, and so on) is the user interface. The block diagram,
    which is the executable code, consists of icons that operate on data
    connected by wires that pass data between them.

    The list is being run as a simple redistribution of all submitted
    messages.  FTP archives are on ftp.pica.army.mil, /pub/labview.

IXO

    the "ixo" protocol, in particular "tpage" by Tom Limoncelli
    available from anonftp.geo.mtu.edu (141.219.21.210) in the pub/ixo
    directory.

    The "ixo" protocol is used to send a message via modem from
    your computer to a paging service.  The paging service then
    broadcasts the message so that it displays on your alphanumeric
    pager.  Most alphanumeric pagers use the "ixo" protocol.
    "tpage" is a program that speaks the "ixo" protocol through a
    modem connected to your Unix system.
