  10. In most Development sections of the Classical period, composers usually developed the first theme, as well as some of the other musical ideas which were introduced in the Exposition section.  But here, Beethoven opens this section with the second theme.

  12. One of the reasons for giving this theme such a prominent role may be because it is a happy and optimistic transformation of the Fate Motive, on which the whole first theme (which opens the Symphony) is based.
