The Exposition ends with a repeat sign, which means that the whole Exposition is to be repeated. Most conductors do not obey this instruction. We know that Berlioz charged the French conductor Francois Antoine Habeneck (1782-1849) with disloyalty for not having obeyed this repeat sign. It is important to know that it was Habeneck who first introduced Beethoven's symphonies in France.
In this recorded version, the conductor obeyed Beethoven's instructions and repeated the whole Exposition section. So relax in your chair and listen to the exposition again, this time enjoying your new knowledge.
