  5. Now comes a new version of the first theme.

  10. At first, this new version seems to be an exact repetition of the first introduction of the theme.  But, instead of the violin's answer, Beethoven surprises us by fusing the Fate Motive (violins) with the answer, played this time by the woodwinds.

  12. Now it is the cello's turn to play the descending melody, which is in contrary motion to the woodwind's reply.

  14. The horns play a sustained G note.
