  5. The stylistic manner, or rules upon which chords are constructed and follow one another, is called "harmony".

  7. In other words, we can define "harmony" as the succession of chords.  The various periods' styles and composers differ in their harmonic characteristics.  Harmony reflects the vertical aspect of music, while counterpoint reflects the horizontal aspect.
