In this year, Beethoven completed his Fourth Symphony, his Fourth Piano Concerto (Op.58), the 32 Variations for piano (c minor), the Violin Concerto (Op. 61), and the 3 Razumovsky Quartets (Op.59).
The Violin Concerto (Op. 61) was Beethoven's first, and unfortunately, last violin concerto. He assigned not less than 4 staves for the violin solo in his score, in order to leave room for alterations. And, in many places, all four staves have been filled.
The Fourth Symphony was written after the great "Eroica", and before the Fifth "Fate" Symphonies. Robert Schumann stated that Beethoven's Fourth Symphony stood between its companions "like a slender Greek maiden between two Norse giants".
"The general character of the score", wrote Hector Berlioz, "is either lively, alert, and gay, or of celestial sweetness".

The French win another important battle in Jena. When Beethoven heard the sad news of Napoleon's new conquest, he declared: "It is a pity that I don't understand the art of war as well as I do the art of music, as I would easily conquer him!"
In this year, Beethoven completed his Three String Quartets Op.59 (which were commissioned by the Russian Count Razoumovsky), Leonore Overtures, Violin Concerto, Fourth Piano Concerto, Fourth Symphony, and many other works.
