General Jean Baptiste Bernadotte, the French ambassador, arrives in Vienna. Rudolphe Kreutzer, the famous violinist, arrived with him. It is believed that at one of their meetings with Beethoven, one of them brought up the idea that the composer write a heroic symphony in honor of General Bonaparte.
This same year, Beethoven made a second tour of Prague. After listening to him play, the bohemian composer Tomasek wrote: "Beethoven's magnificent playing and particularly the daring flights in his improvisation stirred me strangely to the depths of my soul; indeed I found myself so profoundly bowed down that I did not touch my pianoforte for several days..."
