  5.     "DiscPassage allows you to quickly locate words and phrases in "
  6.     "documents stored on CD-ROM (Compact Disc, Read Only Memory).  "
  7.     "Many discs also store images and several will have audio      "
  8.     "features available.                                           "

  10.     "DiscPassage has four major functions:                         "

  12.     "   * Search -  helps you search the database for specific     "
  13.     "               words, authors, subjects, or titles to identify"
  14.     "               related documents.                             "
  15.     "   * Browse -  helps you review lists of words, authors,      "
  16.     "               subjects, or titles, then select corresponding "
  17.     "               documents.                                     "
  18.     "   * Contents- lists the table of contents contained in the   "
  19.     "               database and helps you select a document.      "
  20.     "                                                              "
  21.     "   * Database- identifies information available on the CD and "
  22.     "               helps you select a database.                   "

  26.     "When a major function menu appears on the screen, make a      "
  27.     "selection by:                                                 "
  28.     "                                                              "
  29.     "   * Moving the highlight sideways using the left and right   "
  30.     "     arrow keys, or moving the highlight up and down using the"
  31.     "     up and down arrows, then selecting the hightlighted      "
  32.     "     choice with the enter key.                               "

  34.     "The keyboard has several special keys:                        "
  35.     "                                                              "
  36.     " * ENTER - Executes the current selection or words you typed. "
  37.     " * ESC   - Escape leaves the current menu or document and     "
  38.     "           returns to the previous menu.                      "
  39.     " * HOME  - Goes to the beginning of the document or top of the"
  40.     "           menu.                                              "
  41.     "                                                              "
  42.     " * END   - Goes to the end of the document or bottom of the   "
  43.     "           menu.                                              "
  44.     " * PgUp  - Page Up scrolls up one page in the document or one "
  45.     "           menu screen.                                       "
  46.     " * PgDn  - Page Down scrolls down one page in the document or "
  47.     "           one menu screen.                                   "
  48.     " * F2    - Clears all word fields in the search/browse        "
  49.     "           template and restarts your search.                 "
  50.     " * F3    - Jump directly to next matching document or image   "
  51.     "           (In search/browse context).                        "
  52.     " * F7    - Prints the document or table currently displayed.  "
  53.     " * F8    - Copies the text file to floppy or hard disk.       "
  54.     " * F9    - Pops up a menu allowing selection of figures, audio"
  55.     "           and tables included in the document.               "
  56.     " * F10   - Execute - displays titles or searches through      "
  57.     "           documents to find the next occurrence of a word.   "

  61.     "   * Moving the highlight up or down with the arrow keys      "

  63.     "   * Selecting the highlighted choice with the ENTER key      "

  65.     "The Search function helps you find a document by searching the"
  66.     "data base using four separate criteria:                       "
  67.     "   * WORD-    searches the full text of documents for combin- "
  68.     "              ations of words.  This can include anything in  "
  69.     "              the title, abstract, references or captions.    "
  70.     "              Every word is indexed with the exception of     "
  71.     "              numbers and single characters.  Sometimes common"
  72.     "              words such as 'the' are omitted.                "
  73.     "   * AUTHOR-  searches for documents with combinations of     "
  74.     "              authors.  Data bases with a single author do not"
  75.     "              offer this feature.                             "
  76.     "   * SUBJECT- searches the subject index of documents for     "
  77.     "              combinations of key words.  Data bases dealing  "
  78.     "              with a single subject do not offer this feature."
  79.     "   * TITLE-   searches the titles of documents for combin-    "
  80.     "              ations of words.                                "

  87.     "The Browse function helps you find a document by scrolling    "
  88.     "through lists of words or names with the number of documents  "
  89.     "that contain them:                                            "
  90.     "   * WORD -   lists all of the words from a to z (except those"
  91.     "              common words such as "the" that may have been   "
  92.     "              excluded) found in the documents in a data base "
  93.     "   * AUTHOR - lists the authors of documents, last name first "
  94.     "   * SUBJECT- lists the subjects of documents.  Subjects are  "
  95.     "              determined from key words or phrases supplied   "
  96.     "              by the original publisher.                      "
  97.     "   * TITLES - lists the words found in the titles of documents"

  99.     "The contents function helps you find a document by scrolling  "
  100.     "through the table of contents, listing documents in the order "
  101.     "they were originally published.                               "

  103.     "This menu show the available data bases on the CD-ROM disc you"
  104.     "are now playing.  Make a selection in the data base menu by:  "

  106.     "   * Moving the highlight up or down using the ARROW KEYS and "
  107.     "     then selecting with the ENTER key                        "
  108.     "                                                              "
  109.     "The data base you selected will appear at the top line of the "
  110.     "screen.  Move to Search, Browse, or Contents with arrow keys. "

  112.     "The Change/Quit functions give you options to change CD-ROM   "
  113.     "discs or to quit the program.  Use the arrow keys to highlight"
  114.     "the choice you desire, then select it with the enter key.     "

  116.     "To change a disc, select Change from the menu, then remove the"
  117.     "CD-ROM disc in the player, replace it with another DiscPassage"
  118.     "title (this will only work on DiscPassage products), and press"

  122.     "phrases, one on each line.  The escape key (ESC) will return  "
