  15.      This manual page documents the GNU version of dirname.  dir-
  16.      name prints the leading path part of the pathname _✓p_✓a_✓t_✓h.  If
  17.      _✓p_✓a_✓t_✓h does not contain a leading path, dirname prints `.'
  18.      (meaning the current directory).
