- Diamond Edge V1.10 Patch Program Instructions
- (C)1993 Robert D. Luneski
-
- Greetings,
-
- To upgrade your Diamond Edge V1.03 or V1.04 to V1.10 you need to do
- the following things:
-
- 1) Insure that there is at least 180K free space on the disk you perform the
- upgrade on. We suggest you upgrade a backup copy on your harddisk.
-
- 2) The version of EDGE.PRG, EDGE.RSC, and DMIRROR.PRG you want to upgrade must
- reside in the same directory as DEPATCH.PRG is run from. You must leave
- the program named EDGE.PRG and resource file named EDGE.RSC, the patch
- program will rename them for you.
-
- 3) You must have the V103_110.DAT or V104_110.DAT and V110.RSC in the same
- directory as EDGE.PRG, EDGE.RSC, and DMIRROR.PRG.
-
- 4) Have your owners manual ready to enter an ownership validation code.
-
- 4) Run DEPATCH.PRG and enjoy your new version of Diamond Edge.
-
- I you have any problems upgrading, please send e-mail to ORA.TECH or call
- (503) 620-4919 or FAX (530) 624-2940
-
- Enjoy Diamond Edge V1.10

- Falcon Enhanced
- ---------------
- Diamond Edge was always Falcon compatible, but now it's user interface is
- specifically enhanced for the new Falcon/MultiTOS 3d look.
-
- New Version of Diamond Mirror
- -----------------------------
- A new version of Diamond Mirror will be created on completion of the patch
- program. It fixes a number of bugs including the date problem on some month
- rollover. The internal file format fo Mirror Files and Disk Information files
- has changed. You will need to delete your existing ones and recreate new
- ones from Diamond Edge V1.10 and Diamond Mirror V1.1 This also means that you
- need to recreate your Diamond Edge Emergency disk.
-
- Diamond Edge Emergency Disk
- ---------------------------
-
- Diamond Edge is distributed on a single sided disk to accomodate
- those who only have single sided drives. To make an effective
- emergency disk you should copy all of the files on the
- distribution disk to a double sided disk after you complete the
- installation procedure. This is necessary so your emergency
- disk will have enough free space to save the disk and SCSI
- information files.
-
- Extra Folders for TOS
- ----------------------
- Just because you have a TOS past 1.4 does not mean that you are
- immune to operating system memory pool problems. Although the limits
- have been extended, they have not been eliminated and you can still run
- into problems. Disk Utility programs stress the operating system memory
- pool more than other programs by accessing many more folders in a single
- session than would be accessed during normal use.
-
- If you experience problems(even if you don't) we recommend you run
- FOLDRXXX.PRG with several hundred folders or add additional folders through
- your hard disk driver configuration program. This recommendation is
- regardless of the version of TOS that you have.
-
- Install Boot Sector Only
- ------------------------
- To compensate for several bugs in earlier and current versions of Atari's
- hard disk driver AHDI.PRG and limitations in ICD's utility software when
- a disk's boot sector has been corrupted, we have added an option to the
- Hard Disk partitioning menu to rebuild a valid boot sector for a partition.
-
- Unrecognized Boot Sectors
- -------------------------
- Early versions of Atari's HDX formatting software installed boot sectors
- that indicated the existance of only one FAT table when in fact there were
- two on the disk. Diamond Edge would flag this as an error and complain about
- an unrecognized boot sector. To get around this without having to reformat,
- have Diamond Edge install a valid boot sector on the partitions using the
- Install Boot Sector option described above.
-
- A Note to TT owners
- -------------------
- It is very important to have the latest versions fo hard disk drviers
- for this machine(actaully this important for all machines). Contact Atari
- or ICD for more information. You should not set the TT Load or TT Ram
- flags on your hard disk driver. If using ICD driver software on a TT
- with hard drives attached to the ACSI port, then you should turn the
- ICD cache off before optimization using ICD's configuration program
- HDUTIL.PRG.
-
- A Note to Data Diet Users
- -------------------------
-
- In general we recommend that you turn Data Diet OFF while running
- Diamond Edge.
-
- If you are using Data Diet be sure to read the Data Diet manual about
- the Find First/Find Next setting.
-
- If you are going to perform any validation file validation functions, then
- before running Diamond Edge you must either turn Data Diet OFF or select
- FIND NEXT FILE: ORIGINAL SIZE. Data Diet normally DOES NOT return the
- correct uncompressed file size from the operating system call used to
- determine a file's size. This will cause problems with ANY program that
- relies on the official Atari documented behavior of the operating system call.
-
- Some other file copy/backup programs use a "read until End Of File(EOF)"
- method and do not need(but should) to know the actual file size. However,
- this method that can yeild an incomplete copy with no error message in the
- event of a disk error or corrupted file. All you really know is that the
- operating system reached an EOF marker(FFFF in the FAT Table), you don't
- know for certain that you have all of the file. You would then have a
- corrupted file and a false sense of security. For absolute data integrity,
- Diamond Edge requires knowledge of the actual file size so that if can
- determine that all of the file has been really been read during a File
- Validation process.
