  1. Q: What is an Arawak?  (We get asked this a lot!)

  3. A: The Arawaks were one of the two indigenous peoples living in the West Indies
  4.    (The Caribs being the other) when Columbus came to the new world. A handsome
  5.    and peaceful people, they lived life to its fullest and bothered no one. 
  6.    Sadly, they were enslaved by the Spanish and succumbed to European diseases 
  7.    to which they had no resistance.  They are now largely forgotten by history
  8.    except to West Indians and the Jamaican Maroons who are descended in part 
  9.    from them.
