OCR: CTRL-S to pause, CTRL-Q to resume . Pinochle Help The object of Pinoch le is to score the most points in 10 hands. ThePinochle deck is quite unique. There are no 2's through 7's - only 9'sthrough aces, and it is a double deck. here are eight 9's (2 of eachsuit), eight 10's, etc. This means that the deck c ontains 48 cards . The Display "The caller's name and cards appear at the bottom of the screen, the sysop'sat the top. There are several windows on the screen. The light blue boxat the right center of the screen indicates the curre nt hand number. Thegreen box in the center of the screen contains the draw pile and the cardwhich determines which suit is "trump." The cyan and It. red boxes contain the same information, the cyan box is the sysop's total, thelt. red box is the caller's total. The 5 digit number is the grand totalfor the player. Th is is the score that determines the winner at the end ofthe game. This total is updated after each hand. The 4 digit number in thebox is the current hand tota 1 (except for trick points which appear in thepurple box). The purple box is in cluded so that you can see how manypoints you've won in tricks. There are 240 t rick points possible per hand. Cards played appear at the middle left of the scre en. The number under thedraw pile indicate the number of cards left in the draw pile. Each hand begins with the dealer dealing 10 cards to each player. Thedraw pile is placed in the green box and the top card is turned over. Thetop card d etermines which suit is trump for the current hand (the other3 suits are called "fail"). If it is a "9" the dealer gets 10 points. Atthis point, and after eve ry trick the computer will scan each player's handand report all points. Points are given for certain combinations ofcards as follows : Points Card(s) 10 9 of trump suit. You also get to swap the 9 with the trump card the green box. 20 any Queen-King of the same suit ("marri age") 40 A trump marriage, a Queen-King of the trump suit. 40 One Jack of each suit ("40 Jacks") 60 One Queen of each suit ("60 Q ueens") 80 One King of each suit ("100 Aces") 190 ("80 Kings") 100 One Ace of ea ch suit trump, 10 J-Q-K-A A royal straight flush of 40 Queen of Spades & Jack of Diamonds ("Pinochle") 400 Double PinochleAfter all points have been determined the player across from the dealerplays a card. The play out phase is similar to Sheepshead. The secondperson to play must follow suit. If he can't then he can play any card. Ca rds have the following strength from highest to lowest: Ace, 10, King, Queen, Ja ck, and Nine. There is nothing magical about Jacks andQueens in Pinochle (this is different than Sheepshead where Jacks, Queens, and diamonds are always trump) The winner of a trick is determined asfollows: If either or both cards are trump then the highest trump card wins. If neither card is trump then the hig her ranking card of the fail suit led wins. If both players play the sa me card the person who led wins . Each card has the same trick point value as in S heepshead : Aces -- 11 Tens -- 10 Kings -- 4 Queens - 3 Jacks -- 2 Nines -- 0After each player has played a card the purple box values are ad ju sted toreflect the last trick. Then the players each take a card from thedraw p ile, winner of the trick first, restoring your hand to 10 cards . This entire proc ess is continued until all cards have been played.
