This is the mys-adventure's most poignant scene. Calhoon was not
"satisfied with a mere romance between Scotia and Debbie; he had to
inject a subplot of dubious fiscal integrity. He hated to kill off
such a promising character (perhaps for a sequel?) but the symmetry of
the plot (as well as of the Library) required her demise.
