W A L T ' S G E O P A I N T S K E T C H B O O K
by Walt Harned
We have been asked why we don't have any GEOS programs on LOADSTAR
128. The answer is that we have never been sent any. But we have been
sent clip art and fonts so I figured it was time we had a GEOS file on our
disk. What made my decision easier is Walt Harned's excellent GeoPaint
document.
WALT, THE MAN
-------------
I don't know if there are many LS 128 subscribers who have never seen
LOADSTAR 64 but if so, you need to be introduced to the #1 computer artist
in the 8-bit world, Walt Harned. He's been supplying LS 64 with title
screens, slideshows, multimedia events, and good vibes for years now. He
spent his pre-LOADSTAR life gallivanting around the universe, amassing all
sorts of useless and decadent skills, then retired from the teaching field
to devote his life to art. He lives in a castle in Louisville KY where he
has the most sophisticated art laboratory known to 8-bit man. Sure, he
could be a rich man creating VGA art for the evil IBM empire, but Walt is
not interested in mere lucre; Walt has too much class for that. Walt
Harned is the personification of the LOADSTAR Spirit.
THE SKETCHBOOK
--------------
There are several beautiful outdoor scenes in the document, just
waiting for you to clip and print. Some are in color if you are viewing
them in 40 columns. There's even a picture of a WWII fighter plane whose
name escapes me at the moment. When my brother was in the Ground Observer
Corps back in the early 50s, we knew the names of all of the US and Russian
planes, as well as their shapes, but I guess since New Mexico was never
attacked by MIGs, that valuable information somehow slipped out of my
mind.
GEOVIEWER
---------
I've included GEOVIEWER by Siamak Ansari on this disk so you can see
Walt's art without GEOS. It's a C-64 program so you must be in the C-64
mode to run it. It allows you to view and even print the picture if you
have an Epson-emulating or 1525-emulating printer.
When you boot GEOVIEWER you can load "sketchbook" by pressing F1, or
change the setup by pressing F3. The setup screen allows you to:
F1 - use a fast load routine (don't use it if you have one already),
F2 - change the device number for loading,
F3 - change the device number for saving what's on the screen,
F4 - change the printer device number (4 is default)
After you get the setup right for your system, press F1 and part of
the document will be loaded and displayed. From the display screen you can
use the CRSR keys to move the view. RIGHT and LEFT scroll pretty fast but
UP and DOWN cause a disk load. You may also press:
T - move to the top
B - move to the bottom
L - move to the left (no load)
R - move to the right (no load)
C - move to the center
P - print the screen
S - save the screen as a DOODLE file
RETURN - lets you load another file, or by pressing F1, go back to the
Main Menu.
GEOVIEWER is not a LOADSTAR program but it's one of the handiest
programs ever written. Our thanks to Siamak Ansari for letting us publish
it. It cannot be modified by us.
