V I D E O C R A P S 8 0
by Louis K. Avanzi with modifications by Edward C. Rainey
No, your eyes are not deceiving you -- this program was just published
on LOADSTAR 128 #20. But the version on that issue used the 80-column
screen to show both the Craps table (which was 40 columns wide) and the
instructions (which were 38 columns wide). This new version, courtesy of
Edward Rainey of Jacksonville FL, now shows a full screen Craps table and
places the instructions on other screens where they belong.
Edward wrote that the screen was hard to read on his monitor. Other
readers have also said that some of our programs have "bad" color
combinations. I'm beginning to think that I have been blessed with above
average video chips in my computers and better than average monitors on
both my work and home computers. This is great for me but not good for the
important people, you. I'll try to be more discriminating in the future.
It took quite a bit of work to redraw the Craps table and change the
program so that it will work with the new screen and instruction. Thank
you, George!
The program works the same as before, except now you can press H at
almost any time to see the Help Screens, which explain all about Craps as
played in Vegas. I've made a few changes in the following text so even if
you've played it before you might want to read on to see how the program
now works.
VIDEO CRAPS is a direct simulation of the noble game of Craps, the
Game of Despots. It has most of the features of the game as played in
Vegas but without the severe monetary loss that almost always accompanies
the real thing. You start out with $5000 in imaginary cash and it's up to
you (and the roll of the simulated dice) to see how much imaginary loot you
end up with. All of the strategy that the high rollers use is available to
you.
The only keys you have to press during the game are:
P - makes the bet that you will PASS (that is, roll 7 or 11 on the
COME-OUT ROLL or make your POINT).
D - makes the bet that you will NOT PASS.
B - makes another bet.
R - rolls the dice.
NUMBER KEYS - sets the amount of your bet(s). You may bet any amount
from $2 to $2000 on any single bet.
H - calls up the Help Screens where the following keys work:
N - takes you to the next page of instructions.
L - takes you to the last (previous) page of instructions.
Q - takes you to LOADSTAR 128 if there's a LS 128 disk in the drive.
G - takes you back to the game.
VIDEO CRAPS is for fun. It will work on any drive. Have fun learning
about this ancient game of dice BEFORE you go to Vegas, Atlantic City or a
downtown riverboat where they play for blood and money.
