  2.                                    The ROOF
  3.     Be careful, Calhoon may try to kill you on the roof.  If you do
  4. anything on the roof without a lit flashlight -- except "take ladder"
  5. -- you die.  You can take the ladder in the dark because of a design
  6. flaw in the game.  If the brown key (the key needed to get the
  7. batteries) is in the basement, you can't get it because the flashlight
  8. is needed in the basement.  The only other way to get the batteries is
  9. to have the ladder in the Frontier Room.  Ergo, the ladder must be
  10. obtainable even without the flashlight.  Plum's note in the bird's
  11. beak mentions the ladder on the Roof.  Apparently, this was Calhoon's
  12. way to get around the design flaw, because there's no reason for Plum
  13. to be telling anyone about the ladder.
