ORCHID ART 3 & 4
by Jane M. Voskap-Jones
THE ORCHIDS
Hopefully you enjoyed Orchid Art 1
& 2 on LOADSTAR issue #224. I gave
you the history of this project on
issue #224, so I won't distract you
with that all again. Here are some
more orchids for your growing
collection, go and have a look.
Since Dave and Sheri have told us
in the Disovery column that issue #256
will be the stopping point, I will try
and get you as many of these beautiful
pieces as I can, along with completing
a couple of other series. Prepare for
a rain of Jane, mainly in the plain
(smiling now).
The orchids came from a source
called "The Plant Kingdom Compendium,"
edited by Jim Harter, published by
Bonanza Books in 1998 (ISBN
0-517-65833-x). It is a definitive
volume of more than 2400 copyright-
free engravings, if you want to go and
look it up.
ABOUT THESE FILES
The HandyScanner64 and the Pagefox
cartridge, (Scanntronik Devices) were
connected to my C-64, to scan these
orchids into Handy format. Then using
GEOS128 v2.0 on my C128d, and the
program HandyImport v1.1 (a Joseph P.
Buckley program) the scans were
converted to GEOpaint. Some slight
editing was required, after which
Scrapcan v1.3+ (a Nate Fiedler
program) was used to compile the
pictures together on a single GEOpaint
page as you see the presented here.
The text was compiled using the Write
Stuff v2 for c128 (an Eric Lee
program), using the BB Speller feature
in a 1750 reu for spell correction.
As usual, I had lots of fun
compiling this orchid art for you. My
whole Commodore and GEOS system keeps
working at its best for me. Just the
way I like it.
Yours Truly,
Jane

[DAVE'S NOTE:] It you are a
GEOS/WHEELS fan and like clip art,
Jane has a ton (or is that tonne?) of
it for very reasonable prices. I can't
find her flyer right now. Just drop
her a line. She will be glad to hear
from you.
I have always felt that these GEOS
images are just too good to keep in
the point-and-click world, so we have
made SHP bitmap graphics for the rest
of us. This time, Jane sent PCX
versions (for the PC). These easily
become GIFs, which GoDot brings back
into the C-64 world.
So, if you are a GEOS type person, use
Wraptor to open up these files.
Otherwise, enjoy our little slide show
of Orchids.
