MAGIC PICTURE -- KALLIE
by Dave Moorman
A couple of months ago, I found a
"toy" video camera on the close-out
shelves at WalMart, for just $45. Now,
over the years, I have lost or broken
over a thousand dollars worth of video
cameras, and have not had one at all
for six years. So I got the little
thingy.
It is small, fitting in my pocket,
and records 320x240 pixels at 6 to 10
frames a second (depending on the
light). The result, when put on a
normal television screen, is much like
an old 8mm movie. But it is perfect
for me.
First of all, there are no moving
parts to break. My investment is
small. And the frames are perfect for
the C-64! My LMV (Loadstar MoVie)
files have 128x96 pixels (high-res) --
so who needs much more resolution?
Getting the images into the C-64
requires a lot of massaging using my
Windows PC and an video toaster/editor
called Ulead Studio. Next month, I
will have some C-64 editing software
and movie clips so you can play with
the LMV format. But for now, here is
one more clip for your enjoyment.
The Sunday after getting my new
camera, we went to the monthly
Singspiration gathering at the Baptist
Church. Afterwards, we shared a great
meal. And across the table from me was
little Kallie Cathcart, being ever so
cute. I caught her on video, and
worked the images to create a "Magic
Picture," not unlike the photographs
in Harry Potter's wizarding world.
