While the Ingalls lived in Walnut
Grove, the family actually didn't have
a "Little House" at all. They lived in
a dugout sod house in the side of a
river bank! Here is a recreation of
what that house would have looked
like.

After visiting the museum, the actual
site of the sod house on the river,
and a quick swim in "Lake Laura" we
took an exciting hail- and tornado-
filled drive east to Pepin, Wisconsin.
Pepin also has a museum about Laura
and her family, though it is less
impressive than the one at Walnut
Grove.
However, several miles out of town
they have rebuilt the Little House on
the actual Ingalls Homestead.

Afterwards, we all climbed back in our
wagon to head for home.
