Program by Peirre Messier
Text by Dave Moorman
In 1976, when the Apple Computer
is still a bunch of components in a
suburban Cuppertino garage, Nolan
Bushnell -- Mr. Atari -- hires a not-
yet-over-hyped Steve Jobs to write a
video game called Breakout. Jobs joins
with his friend, Steve Wozniak, and
they crank out the design in five
days. Bushnell pays $5000 for the
product. The Woz got $350, and Steve
Jobs forever took full credit for the
game.
Since then, I suppose everyone who
has programmed games for fun and/or
profit has written a Breakout clone.
Arkanoid added a cluster of special
effects to overload the player, who is
trying to just keep the ball in play!
Here is Peirre Messier's 1988
contibution to the genre -- ZIX. It
uses the joystick (in port 2) rather
than the mouse or trackball, which
adds to the challenge.
Richard Derocher sent this small
game to me, and I give it to you.
Enjoy ZIX.
