YOUR HOME TOWER NEWS
By Dave Moorman
Now more than ever, you NEED a
CD-ROM on your C-64/128! Great
collections are coming out from all
around the world. A SCSI CD-ROM
connected to a CMD Hard drive is good.
And the LOADSTAR Home Tower is also
excellent!
Next month we will round up the
many CD-ROMs available for C= people.
But for this month, we will look at
the 64HDriver browser that comes with
your LS Home Tower.
The browser that comes with Your
Home Tower can easily copy material
anywhere you want. This month, we will
look at various copying techniques.
Getting 1581 disks onto and off of
the hard drive is a snap, since the
Home Tower has 1581Copy built right
in. As with all copying, you must have
at least one external drive on your
serial chain. The rest is easy.
[1581 > D81]
1. Move through the Source Menu
until you are in the MS-DOS directory
where you want to put the D81 file.
2. Insert the 1581 disk into the
3.5 inch drive on the Tower.
3. Choose <1581> from the command
menu.
4. Choose <1581 > D81>
5. Type in the filename for your
D81 file. (Limit of 8 characters. Do
[not] include the ".d81". That is done
for you.)
6. In less than 2 minutes, the
Source Menu will be redisplayed with
the new D81 file present.
[D81 > 1581]
1. Move through the Source Menu
until the menu cursor is on the D81
file you want to copy to a 1581 disk.
2. Put a blank DD/DS 3.5 inch disk
in the Tower's 3.5 inch drive.
3. Choose <1581> from the command
menu.
4. Choose <D81 > 1581>. In about 2
minutes, your 1581 disk will be ready.
[1541/1571 copies]
The Tower does not have a
whole-disk copier for 5.25 inch disks.
You will need to copy all the files
for disk to disk.
[1541/1571 > D64/D71]
1. Move to the MS-DOS directory
where you want the disk image file.
2. Choose <Make C= Img> from the
command menu. Choose the desired
format:
D64 -- 1541
D71 -- 1571
D81 -- 1581
and type in the file name. (limit of
8 characters.)Do not add the ".d??"
extension.)
3. Choose <Swap Sc<>Tg> from the
command menu. Move into the disk image
or disk you want to copy.
4. Mark all the files you want to
copy. (Press <C=-A> to mark All
files).
5. Choose <Copy> from the command
menu, and press <Y>. You will hear
your Tower click off each disk block.
[Copying Disk Images]
The disk images are MS-DOS files,
so can be moved very quickly. Choose
the target MS-DOS directory, swap
source with target, then put the menu
cursor on the desired source disk
image file. Choose <Copy> and press
<Y>. In no time at all, the copy is
finished.
When you create a new disk image,
a blank image is copied to the source
menu and renamed. It is that easy.
Don't forget -- this column is for
you. If you have any questions or
suggestions, send them in.
