LOADSTAR HOME TOWER NEWS
by Dave moorman
Immediately after getting this
issue out, we will be transfering the
Compleat LOADSTAR, 64HDD, our own
64HDriver, and several other programs
to CD-ROM and building the
Installation 3.5 inch disk. The LS
Home Tower will be ready for orders by
September 1!
Actually, with this design, you
can save a lot of cash by aquiring a
used PC (486 or better with 3.5 inch
floppy disk drive and CD-ROM drive),
then ordering the Cable, CD-ROM, and
Installation disk from us. We will
sell the Cable for $15 and the
program package for $50.
Installation should not be that
hard. Power up the PC and put the
CD-ROM in the tray and the 3.5 inch
disk in the drive. Then reset the
computer. The autoboot program on the
3.5 inch disk will set everything up.
In a minute or two, a beep will tell
you that your Tower is ready. Connect
the C-64 and other drives to the PC
with the Cable, power everything up,
and type:
LOAD"64:*",15:<Shift-RUN>
Soon you will have 64HDriver up and
running, with complete access to your
Home Tower.
For those who are unsure about
getting everything together, we will
offer loaded and tested Home Towers --
software and hardware -- for $200 plus
shipping.
Today, I used 64HDriver to load
and run MODSTAR Copier from my 1541 on
device 8, and copied the program to
the PCs hard disk. It worked like a
charm.
I especially enjoy the power of
64HDriver because I can use either
VICE 1.9 on my PC or my C-64 to access
any disk image on the hard drive. And
that is where I keep [everything]!
With this system, I no longer need to
make disk transfers between systems.
Everything is fairly integrated.
I just got news that Nick Copland
has a "Pro" version of 64HDD coming
out in September. When you order the
Tower or Tower software, the software
will be the current version. Your name
will be registered with Nick, and you
can upgrade through him for a fair
price.
Or not. 64HDriver and 64HDD as it
now stands does a great job for
ordinary users. Again -- this is a
mass storage unit, filled to the brim
with the Compleat LOADSTAR Library,
aimed at ordinary users.
By the time you read this, issue
#216 should be in the works and to you
by September 1 -- with an order form
and everything you will need to know
to get your very own LOADSTAR Home
Tower!
