  5.     Welcome to the 2-Dimensional
  6. universe of Fargo where an unusual
  7. species of creatures called Orbytes
  8. live. What makes Orbytes unusual is
  9. that they live their lives in a
  10. constant state of vertical motion,
  11. bouncing up and down between the
  12. square trees that also populate the
  13. universe of Fargo.
  14.  
  15.     But life for an Orbyte is not just
  16. bouncing, it's filled with many
  17. hazards. Like Spiker trees that can
  18. pop an Orbyte like a bubble, and lava
  19. pits that can fry you to a crisp. Then
  20. there's the worst one of all the
  21. dreaded Lava Snakes jumping out of the
  22. lava pits to snatch an Orbyte for
  23. dinner.
  24.  
  25.     Despite the dangers of Fargo the
  26. Orbytes have managed to build
  27. themselves a peaceful forest community
  28. free of danger. But this peace was
  29. recently shattered with the death of
  30. the King Orbyte. Without a leader the
  31. community has fallen into chaos. Now a
  32. new leader must step forward and prove
  33. himself by crossing the Valley of
  34. Fire.
  35.  
  36.    The Valley of Fire is a narrow pass
  37. between two huge lava pits, filled to
  38. the brim with Snakes and Spikers. Now
  39. it is time for you to take on the
  40. King's Quest and bring peace to the
  41. Orbytes again.
  42.

  44.  THE PLAY

  47.    As an Orbyte you will have control
  48. of your movement from left to right
  49. while you bounce up and down
  50. automatically. Use the Joystick in
  51. Port #2 or the CRSR keys to guide your
  52. Orbyte from the left side of each
  53. screen and off the right side
  54. completing the level. When moving left
  55. to right line yourself up with a tree
  56. to bounce off of and go the other way
  57. or else you will fall into the lava.
  58.  
  59.     There are fifteen levels to Fargo.
  60. You may change the starting level from
  61. (1-9) by hitting the appropriate key
  62. on the title screen. You start a level
  63. on the far left side of the screen
  64. bouncing up and down in a safe place
  65. until you move right. After you
  66. complete a level you are awarded a
  67. bonus and an extra life (you start
  68. with 5).

  70.     Each level has lava on the top and
  71. bottom which will change in depth as
  72. you progress. Growing in the center of
  73. the screen is a bunch of trees and
  74. Spikers. Bounce off the trees and
  75. avoid the Spikers. If a Snake hits a
  76. tree it becomes a Spiker, when it hits
  77. a Spiker it eats it. When a Snake
  78. touches your Orbyte, or you fall into
  79. the lava you will lose a life. When
  80. you lose a life you will be returned
  81. to the safe place on the left side of
  82. the screen to try again.

  84.     Growing next to the lava, on both
  85. sides, is a group of 'tough' trees.
  86. Snakes can't hurt these trees so you
  87. are safe if you bounce between two of
  88. them. This is also how you score
  89. points. When you strike a tough tree
  90. it will change shape and you will
  91. score points according to its type:

  95.  lt green...checkered.. =  125
  96.  lt blue....cross...... =  250
  97.  pink.......hour glass. =  500
  98.  any........changed.... =    0

  101.  TIPS AND STRATEGY
  102.  ---- --- --------

  104.   1) Don't move until you know where
  105. you'll bounce next. Bouncing by the
  106. seat of your pants is thrilling but
  107. you'll lose lives quickly.
  108.  
  109.   2) Look for safe columns between
  110. tough trees. Since lava snakes can
  111. only move vertically you'll be safe.
  112.  
  113.   3) If two objects are stacked on top
  114. of each other you can destroy the one
  115. on top by hitting the one underneath
  116. diagonally this will bounce you the
  117. other way and kill the object on top,
  118. EVEN A SPIKER!!!
  119.  
  120.   4) Remember the goal of the game is
  121. to get off the right side of the
  122. screen. Putting yourself in dangerous
  123. places just to get points will cost
  124. you lives. Greed is not a good quality
  125. in a King.
  126.  
  127.   5) Note: there is no gravity in
  128. Fargo so you 'fall' equally up and
  129. down. The lava on top is as dangerous
  130. as the lava on the bottom.

  132.   6) There can only be two lava snakes
  133. on the screen at a time. So if you're
  134. worried a snake will jump out as you
  135. cross a wide gap, wait until two are
  136. on the screen and you will be safe.
  137.  
  138.   7) If there are a bunch of Spikers
  139. in your way then it might be worth it
  140. to wait till the snakes eat them.
