  7.     The picture is a classic clip off
  8. television. The ever-resourceful
  9. McGyver hurries into a room, finds a
  10. Commodore 64, and quickly does his ad
  11. lib wonders with it.
  12.  
  13.     Interestingly, it seems that his
  14. hands only touch the Function keys and
  15. the RETURN. Must be a nice, pre-Mr.
  16. Mouse program, eh? Even more
  17. interesting -- there is no datasette,
  18. no 1541, no 1581, no RAMLink, no HD,
  19. no CD-ROM! Exactly how does our
  20. favorite finagler get a program up and
  21. running?
  22.  
  23.     But for our purposes, it really
  24. doesn't matter. For we have Arndt
  25. Dettke, the "god of GoDot" himself
  26. (OK, I couldn't resist the
  27. alliteration!) to walk us through the
  28. steps of taking a complex GIF photo
  29. and making an impressionistic graphic
  30. of some respectability.

  32.     Arndt works from the orginal GIF,
  33. which I pre-manipulated with Adobe
  34. PhotoShop to fit the C-64 screen. If
  35. you have a PC (or Mac) and some fairly
  36. sophisticated image processing, you
  37. can do this yourself.

  39.   1. Reduce the image to 320 x 240
  40. pixels. This is the proper aspect
  41. ratio for a C-64 screen (in theory).
  42.  
  43.   2. Scrunch the image to 320 x 200.
  44. This is the actual pixel size of the
  45. C-64 screen.
  46.  
  47.   3. Convert the image into a [non]-
  48. interlaced GIF file. GoDot does not
  49. recognize interlaced GIFs.

  51.   4. Port the file over to the C-64
  52. and have at it! Remember, to load a
  53. GIF into GoDot, you must select the
  54. GIF Loader (upper left corner button)
  55. [and] choose the Convert GIF Mod
  56. (lower right corner button).

  58.   5. When you bring a GIF into GoDot,
  59. you have three options: Color, Gray 9,
  60. and Gray 16. The Run It program for
  61. this article shows you the effects of
  62. these three Methods.

  64.     I have put Arndt's article in a
  65. Read It file, so you can easily print
  66. it out. The Run It offers the two
  67. results he achieved.

  69.     I am hearing that GoDot is proving
  70. to be great fun for many of you. We
  71. are always interested in seeing what
  72. you have done. Again, "before" and
  73. "after" articles concerning the many
  74. Modules will help all of us master
  75. this graphic masterpiece.
