O W E N ' S E S C A P E
by John Fedor
The trial was a sham! It was a
mockery and a travesty and a farce,
too. First they framed you, then they
sentenced you to 999 years. It looked
like you, Owen the Pugnacious, would
spend the rest of your days in prison.
Boy, those anti-littering laws are
tough!
But there's no prison that can
keep the Pug for long. You escaped on
the warden's helicopter and parachuted
into the quaint little burg of Pfister
City. If you can only find a cargo
plane!
But first you must get past guards
and an indestructible tank. The hangar
complex has a special lock on it that
requires five units of houdinic energy
to open. You must find five units and
collect them, then you can enter the
hangar.
You move with a joystick in Port
#2, and can shoot the guards by
pressing the firebutton. Don't shoot
them until they are right on you,
since they re-materialize soon after
they're shot. If they touch you,
you're dead. Don't bother shooting
the tank -- just run from it.
In the hangar you find that you
can move faster, but you no longer
have a gun. Guns don't work in the
hangar complex. The only thing that
works is the airplane, and you have to
find it without getting nabbed by the
guards.
Since you're an expert pilot, you
won't have any trouble getting into
the air, but apparently the warden has
called out the Air Force. Dodge the
planes, fire and missiles. It would be
a shame to die after all the effort
you've put into escaping. You have
shields on your plane but once those
shields have been blown away, you're
one hit away from oblivion.
Here is the scoring for each part
of the escape.
In the City
Shoot Robot - 35
Get Power Cell - 100
Open Door - 1000
In the Hangar
Find Plane - 2500
Time Bonus - 5 per time unit left
In the Air
Shoot Enemy's Shot - 50
Shoot Missile - 75
Shoot Enemy - 150
Complete Your Escape - 2000
Shield Bonus - 200 per unit left
Time Bonus - 5 per time unit left
The victory scene at the end of
your successful escape uses 288 sprite
definitions. Don't miss it!
OWEN'S ESCAPE will keep you and
your joystick occupied for more time
than you'll care to admit. The five
all-time top scores are kept in a file
on the disk; the five high scores for
the day are kept in memory.
If you would like to zero out the
high scores file, there's a program on
the disk called "set-up highs". Just
LOAD and RUN this program with the
disk in the drive and the scores will
be cleared.
Well, Owen the Pugnacious, fate
has given you another chance to enjoy
the fruits of freedom. All you have to
do is destroy a few zillion dollars
worth of robots and planes. The
taxpayers may not like it, but that's
what they get for convicting an
innocent man. You ARE innocent, aren't
you, Owen? Aren't you???
