C I S A B
by MAC/ERD
text by Dave Moorman
This Demo is -- first and foremost
-- a [joke]. Or a commentary. Or a
challenge. You will need to decide.
Let's start with the joke: ERD is
comprised of two Dudez of Stellar
Reputation, but their full DemoGroup
name "NTSC/ERD" gives away the tongue-
in-cheek nature of their work:
ELITE RULLING DIVISION
(Note the deliberate misspelling of
"ruling!") The name of this Demo also
sets the stage -- CISAB is rather
backwards, eh? And the commentary
speaks to a truth in the DemoScene: we
are not seeing much that is extra-
ordinarily new or creative.
This is a Pure Basic Demo. The
Coder (hiding behind the pseudo-name
of MAC) had to brush up on FOR-NEXT
loops and MID$'s to pull it off. The
bragz -- jittering across the screen
-- are as obnoxiously cynical, self-
aggrandizing, and badly misspelled as
anything coming out of Europe. (No
offense, guyz. We on this continent
are just getting used to Huked on
Fonix)
The Coder tries to do it all --
scrolling text, moving sprites (a
BLOCK?!), even DYCP (Different Y
Character Positioned) text. And let's
face it, the results are worse than
lame. "Camp" is probably a better
word.
Think of all the Demos that do
almost the same things -- scrolling
texts, moving sprites, sinus plots,
DYCP scrolls, split screens, etc, etc.
And in fact, they really go nowhere
in particular.
CISAB is the club-footed epitome
of such high quality lamers -- not
because Basic is lame, but because the
Dudez often fail to exceed the basic
elements of a mediocre demo.
CISAB is also a challenge. If the
Coder was a novice, and was doing
everything he could to use Basic to
its greatest effect -- this demo would
be [way] cool. Not because it is
cooler than everything else out there,
but because someone sat down late one
night and asked:
"What can [I] do with this thing?"
And whatever that is -- it is COOL!
