  6. 1) The hotkey and hotpop paths in version 1.2 are not saved
  7.    in the win.ini file any more, so the hotkeys and hotpop
  8.    menu items will have to be resetup.

  10. Enhancements / Fixes:

  12. Bring to Top
  13.  
  14. The Hotkey option bring to top has been implemented. This 
  15. is, if an application is already running and was started 
  16. through a hotkey combination, pressing the hotkey 
  17. combination again will bring the application to the top. 
  18. This option is configurable. Bring to top or start another 
  19. copy.

  21. FindFile:

  23. Pressing the escape key will now stop find file.
  24. The files are displayed now as they are found.
  25. Find File has now been implemented in the HotKey section.

  29. The HotPop menu can now have 25 items on it.

  40. HOTWIN is a hot key/hot menu program for windows.
  41.  
  42. HOTPOP is the hot menu part of the HotWin application and 
  43. provides a complete and easy to configure pop down menu. 
  44. HotPop can start normal applications or associated files eg. 
  45. (Readme.txt. or Bill.crd). The menu can be accessed through 
  46. a hot key combination or a mouse button right or middle. The 
  47. hot key combination and the mouse button used to open the 
  48. menu are completely configuarable. The menu also features a 
  49. built in task list. And a Run option so applications or 
  50. associated files not on the menu can be opened immediately. 
  51. The  menu items can be easily added or removed through the 
  52. HOTWIN setup dialog box. The setup features a built in find 
  53. file. Also theres a feature to only show associated files so 
  54. that only executable applications or their associated files 
  55. are shown. A quick enable/disable key combination is built 
  56. in to easily disable HotWin

  59. HOTKEYS
  60.  
  61. HOTKEYS is the second part of the HotWin application and 
  62. provides an easy way to link applications or associated 
  63. files to HotKeys so they can be instantly accessed. Up to 
  64. 30 hotkeys can be assigned. The hotkeys can be assigned to 
  65. associated files or normal applications. A bring to top 
  66. option is built in that will let you bring the application 
  67. to the top, if it's already running by pressing the hotkey 
  68. combination again. The Hotkeys only work within the graphical
  69. windows environment.

  72. This is a unregistered version of HotWin. The program is 
  73. completely functional. When HotWin is loaded the about 
  74. dialog will appear. HotWin is not to be distributed for 
  75. money or services. Try the program out and if it makes
  76. your windows life easier. Please register it.

  102.  
  103. If your upgrading from version 1.0 delete the old HotWin 
  104. files first so know confusion happens.
  105.  
  106. The icon has changed in this version so you'll know if your 
  107. running the latest version because a icon of a window will 
  108. flash now when loading instead of the old icon.
  109.  
  110. The Zip file downloaded contains 3 files
  111.  
  112. 1) HOTWIN.exe
  113. 2) HOTWINL.dll
  114. 3) HOTWIN.txt
  115.  
  116. HotWin.exe and HotWinl.dll need to be placed in your windows 
  117. directory. (Make sure their together).

  120. HotWin does not clutter up your desk top with an icon. When 
  121. it's first loaded the icon will appear briefly meaning 
  122. HotWin is loading and then disapear. Clicking on HotWin 
  123. again will open up the HotWin setup program.

  126. To start HOTWIN:
  127.     
  128. Create an icon for HotWin through the Program Manager or 
  129. open file manager and move into your windows directory and 
  130. select HotWin.exe.
  131.  
  132. Once HotWin is selected, the HotWin icon will appear very 
  133. briefly in the bottom left corner of the screen. This means 
  134. HotWin is loading when the icon disappears HotWin is loaded. 
  135. To setup the menu and hotkeys setup double click on the icon 
  136. again or the filename and the HotWin setup screen will open.

  139. When HotWin is first loaded it looks in the win.ini file for 
  140. it's settings. If these settings are not found it will 
  141. create it's own defaults that will be in effect until you 
  142. have added your own menu items and hot key combination 
  143. through the HotWin setup screen.

  146. The hot key default to open the menu is CTRL-ALT-A and the 
  147. Right mouse button.

  154. The hotkey combination:

  156.     Control Alt Period    (CTRL-ALT-.)

  158. Pressing this key combination once will disable
  159. HotWin (All hotkeys the menu activation keys and the mouse 
  160. button configured to open the HOTPOP menu. Pressing the key 
  161. combination again will enable HotWin and all of it's 
  162. associated buttons and keys.

  165. NOTE: The menu or hotkeys cannot be activated when the 
  166. HotWin setup screen is open.

  168. UNLOADING HOTWIN
  169.  
  170. Open the HotWin setup screen and click on the unload button 
  171. this will remove HotWin from memory.

  173. Hot Win Tips
  174.  
  175. The best way to use HotWin is to put it in the load 
  176. statement of your Win.Ini file. And to put the 
  177. HotWin.exe on the HOTPOP menu or assign a HotKey to it, so 
  178. you'll have instant access to the setup screen.

  182. MENU SETUP:
  183.  
  184. After HotWin has been loaded. Double click on the icon again 
  185. or the filename and the HotWin setup screen will open. 
  186. Select the "Setup Hot Pop Menu" button and the HotPop setup 
  187. menu dialog box will open.

  190. TO ADD A MENU ITEM:
  191.  
  192.   1) Double click on the file to be added in the file list 
  193.      box.
  194.   2) You will then be prompted for the title to appear on 
  195.      the menu enter the name and press ok.
  196.  
  197. NOTE:  When Show only Associated files is selected only 
  198. files that have win.ini associations or executables will 
  199. show up (this is the default) in the file list box. These 
  200. include all the normal extensions (exe,com,bat,pif) and the 
  201. extensions that have associations in the win.ini file. eg. 
  202. if you had a cardfile named TMA.CRD it will show up because 
  203. the extension .crd is associated with the Cardfile.exe 
  204. utility. So the file TMA.CRD can appear on the menu to give 
  205. you instant access to it.

  207. TO REMOVE A MENU ITEM:
  208.  
  209.   1) Select the item to be removed from the menu items list 
  210.     box.
  211.   2) Click on the Remove button.

  214. TO FIND A FILE TO BE ADDED TO THE MENU:
  215.  
  216.   1) Click on the FIND file button
  217.   2) Enter a wild card description of the name to ADD eg.   
  218. *.txt
  219.   3) When the file shows up in the list box double click on  
  220. the line containing the file name.
  221.   4) You will be prompted for the name to appear on the
  222.      menu.
  223.   5) Enter the name and press ok.

  225. NOTE: FIND FILE finds all files not just executables and  
  226. their associations

  229. HOT KEY SETUP
  230.  
  231.     1) Tab or click to the hot key edit box.
  232.     2) Press the desired key combo 
  233.     3) An echo of the keys will show up.
  234.     4) Click ok or tab out of the edit box.

  237. MOUSE BUTTON SETUP
  238.  
  239.     1) Click on checkbox with the mouse button name to use.
  240.     
  241. NOTE: If you don't want to use a mouse button or you  want 
  242. to turn the mouse off just uncheck the box. The hot key 
  243. combo will still open the menu.

  246. TO OPEN A FILE NOT ON the MENU
  247.  
  248.     1) Open the HOTPOP menu and select Run...(last menu
  249.            item)
  250.     2) You will be prompted for the name of the     
  251.         application to execute.

  253. TASK LIST
  254.  
  255. The task list will show all other applications besides the 
  256. current one. To switch tasks just select the menu item. The 
  257. task list is the first item on the menu.

  267. If HOTPOP is activated through a hotkey it will show up in 
  268. the upper left hand corner of the active window. If it's 
  269. activated through a mouse button it will open at the current 
  270. mouse pointer location.

  273. HotKey SETUP:

  275. After HotWin has been loaded. Double click on the icon again 
  276. or the filename and the HotWin setup screen will open. 
  277. Select the "Setup Hot Keys" button and the Hot keys setup 
  278. dialog box will open.

  281. To Configure a HotKey:
  282.  
  283.   1) Double click on the file to be added in the file list 
  284.      box or select the add button.
  285.  
  286.   2) The enter hotkey box will now open.
  287.  
  288.   3) Type in the hotkey combination desired.
  289.  
  290.   4) Select what to do if the application has already been       
  291.      started once through the hotkey combination.
  292.  
  293.     a) Bring to Top: if application has been started 
  294.        through a hotkey then selecting this option will, 
  295.            when pressing the hotkey combination again will 
  296.            bring the application to the top instead of starting 
  297.            another copy.

  299.         b) Start another copy: will start a new copy of 
  300.            the application when the hotkey combination is 
  301.            pressed.

  303.   5) Press Ok or type enter and the key will be added to the 
  304.      list.

  308. To Edit a HotKey:
  309.  
  310.     1) Select from the hotkey list the hotkey to edit. 
  311.     2) Double click in the list or select the edit button.
  312.     3) The edit hotkey dialog box will now open.
  313.     4) Make your changes and select Ok.

  316. TO REMOVE A HOTKEY:
  317.  
  318.   1) Select the item to be removed from the HotKey list 
  319.      box.
  320.   2) Click on the Remove button.

  323. Note on Bring application to Top:
  324.  
  325. For bring to top to work the application has to have been started 
  326. from a hotkey. You can't start a application through program manager
  327. and then enter the hotkey combination to bring it to the top.  This will start another copy of the application. and then any other time
  328. the hotkey combination is entered it will be brought to the top.

  330. HOTKEY TIPS:
  331.  When one hotkey selection is made and you immediately make another
  332.  hotkey selection. It is sometimes neccessary to lift up on the 
  333.  keys and then press down on them again.
