HARDWARE QUESTIONS
From: Versetto 60608
I just recently purchased a
Commodore MPS-802 printer. It prints
just fine in most cases, but it
seems to go crazy in others. For
example, when running the Scarborough
Build a Book About You program, it
does a great job until it gets to a
line that is all caps. Instead of
shifting to upper case, it changes
modes, and still executes a shift at
the beginning of sentences and proper
nouns. So, I end up with caps and
graphic symbols on these lines.
In the printer user's guide the
802 is described as a 1526 printer.
The Build a Book program is said to
support the 1526.
I have encountered other problems
with a few other programs, but none
of the problems seem to resemble the
others.
Is the 802 incompatible with
these programs, or do you think that
my printer is defective? Perhaps the
software is defective? I'm stuck.

To Broadway (53963): I have the same
equipment setup, except that I am
using a GEMINI 10X printer. Assuming
you have your equipment set up
properly, you must create a printer
file per the directions for your type
printer. Paperclip includes most of
the common printer setups. The
Turboprint/GT interface requires that
you send all characters to the
printer unchanged. To do this you
must open your printer in transparent
mode BEFORE you load Paperclip. See
page 16 of the Turboprint/GT
operators manual. In Direct mode, you
type "OPEN 4,4,25:PRINT#4:CLOSE4". Be
sure the line feed is turned OFF on
your printer. If you have any
questions you can write to me.

To owners of the C. Itoh Prowriter
8510 printer:
I got my Prowriter over a year ago
and not until recently did I finally
get the straight dope on proper
dipswitch settings. I have the
Paperclip wordprocessor and the
Cardco +G interface. The best way to
set things up is as follows:
1. Dipswitch settings:
a) Printer:
i) SW1: 2,6,7 closed.
ii) SW2: 1,7 closed.
b) Interface:
3,5 off.
2. Setting up a Printer file for
Paperclip:
a) Run 'PRINTER SETUP*'.
b) Answer NO for Character Set.
c) Edit PC8023-A-ALF-SS.
d) Move to last query with down
cursor.
e) Change Text Secondary Address to
24.
f) CTRL/9 to save printer file.
This set up works great!. Before I
got this information, the dipswitch
settings had to be changed everytime
I switched between Paperclip and just
doing listings and stuff. Just goes
to show you what some dealers know
(or rather, what they don't know). I
had to write to Batteries Included,
C. Itoh, and Cardco to get all the
information I needed. Batteries
Included was especially helpful and
very prompt with their response, as
was Cardco.
One more tip for Prowriter users:
when outputting from a Basic program
to the printer, you can select 1/8
inch linefeeds, which will squeeze
the lines together like they are in a
directory listing. This saves paper
and can help you squeeze more
information onto a single page. Just
open the printer file this way:
OPEN4,4:PRINT#4,CHR(27)"B":
