Figure Maker
Written by: Nancy and Tom Simmonds
Fabulous Figure Maker for the C-64
Commodore Microcomputers, October 1985
Page 98
FIGURE MAKER allows you to create a
high-resolution drawing of any plane
or solid figure. Anything that can
be drawn with less than 150 points
and edges can be generated.
Once the corners and edges have
been entered, you can manipulate your
drawing in many mathematical ways.
This will allow you to view your
drawings as 3D figures with the
proper perspective. You can rotate
your drawing about any of the three
axis, change its size, and move it to
anywhere on the screen. You can also
change your effective viewing
position to view your figure from
different perspectives. You can add
text to your drawings as well as SAVE
them to tape or disk to be LOADed for
later viewing.
When creating your own drawings,
you must enter the X,Y, and Z
coordinates of each corner. You must
then connect the corners by forming
an edge between two corners. The
screen is plus and minus 160 and plus
and minus 100 units along the X and Y
axis, respectively.
The first menu you see will allow
you to either ENTER A FIGURE OR
GRAPH, view a DEMO FIGURE, view a
DEMO GRAPH, or INPUT a FIGURE/GRAPH
FROM a FILE. The two demos show you
some of the applications possible
with FIGURE MAKER. If you decide to
ENTER A FIGURE, then you will have to
input the corner points and edges as
described above. If you decide to
INPUT A FIGURE FROM A FILE, then you
should already have a drawing that
you have SAVEd onto a disk.
After having made a selection, you
will be given another menu. From
here you can PLOT your drawing, VIEW a
STEREOSCOPIC FIGURE, ROTATE your
figure, change the SIZE of your
figure, MOVE your figure, LOCATE the
EYE DISTANCE from the figure, or SAVE
TO TAPE OR DISK.
The PLOT function merely plots your
figure. If you want to include text
at the bottom of the screen you can
enter up to 35 characters.
The STEREOSCOPIC VIEW allows you to
view your figure from two
perspectives at once.
The ROTATE function allows you to
rotate your figure about any of the
three axis by any angle you want.
The CHANGE SIZE option allows you
to change the scaling of your drawing
on all three axis and globally.
The MOVE FIGURE option lets you
move your figure anywhere on the
screen.
The LOCATE EYE option gives you the
ability to get a sense of what
happens when the perspective changes
on a figure as you move toward it or
away from it.
If you decide to SAVE your drawing
to tape or disk, you will be prompted
for a filename.

were POKEd in as a machine-language
