  9. I have recorded two programs, Sector
  10.  
  11. Corrector and Dynamic Renewing.
  12.  
  13.    The first program checks out
  14.  
  15. all unused sectors on a disk and
  16.  
  17. allocates any bad blocks. If bad
  18.  
  19. blocks are found, the operator is
  20.  
  21. instructed to load the program Dynamic
  22.  
  23. Renewing. The cassette buffer is used
  24.  
  25. to pass track and sector information
  26.  
  27. to the second program. This program
  28.  
  29. uses the dynamic keyboard technique to
  30.  
  31. modify itself. When the disk is full
  32.  
  33. or inefficient, load and run the
  34.  
  35. program "RENEW THIS DISK".  "RENEW" is
  36.  
  37. the modified version of "dynamic re-
  38.  
  39. newing". This program will new the
  40.  
  41. disk and immediately allocate the bad
  42.  
  43. sectors. Then it will save itself to
  44.  
  45. the disk. Practice using these two
  46.  
  47. programs on a scratch disk before
  48.  
  49. using them on a disk with programs.
  50.  
  51. Lots of information and warnings are
  52.  
  53. built into the program.

  55.      A program on the test/demo disk
  56.  
  57. that is provided with all 1541 drives,
  58.  
  59. CHECK DISK, requires about 45 min to
  60.  
  61. check out a disk due to a program
  62.  
  63. flaw. Sector corrector will test a
  64.  
  65. blank disk in 8 minutes. Disks with
  66.  
  67. files take less time; disks with a lot
  68.  
  69. of bad blocks take more time.
