  79. |       it will be for your own personal use (and is not to be               |
  80. |       distributed to others).  Your registration will also entitle you     |

  88. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  89.  
  90. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  91. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  92. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  93. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  94. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  95. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  96. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  98. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  99. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  100. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  101. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  102. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  103. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  104. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  105. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  106. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  107. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  108. Shareware.

  110. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  111. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  112. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  113. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.

  115. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  116. product, you don't pay for it.

  125. quential, which may result from the use of PixFolio."

  127. PixFolio is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  128. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  129. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  130. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  131. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  132. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  133.

  135. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  136. useful and find that you are using PixFolio and continue to use
  137. PixFolio after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
  138. istration payment of $35.00 to Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software).
  139. The $35.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any
  140. one computer at any one time.  You must treat this software just
  141. like a book.  An example is that this software may be used by any
  142. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
  143. location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
  144. being used at one location while it's being used at another.
  145. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
  146. same time.

  148. Commercial users of PixFolio must register and pay for their
  149. copies of PixFolio within 30 days of first use or their license
  150. is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made by con-
  151. tacting Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software).

  153. Anyone distributing PixFolio for any kind of renumeration must
  154. first contact Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software) at the address above
  155. for authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted
  156. to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines
  157. for shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering
  158. PixFolio immediately (However Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software) must
  159. still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with
  160. the latest version of PixFolio.).

  162. You are encouraged to pass a copy of PixFolio along to your
  163. friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their
  164. copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered users
  165. will receive a copy of the latest version of the PixFolio
