- A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR Page 2
-
-
-
- As a musician and an engineer I spent so much time keeping up with
- all of the "WHAT..WHERE? HOW MANY TIMES? HOW MUCH?"...., that it
- started causing my creativity to suffer.....and WHY? Simply too
- much to keep up with! Let's face it, if you are an engineer or you
- own a studio, especially one with lots of paying clients, you know
- that after a while it becomes hard to keep up with all of the
- different types of paperwork and filing problems that a studio deals
- with routinely. And when you're assisting or engineering, finding
- the correct tape, the song, and the tracksheet is sometimes enough
- to give you a headache before you even begin the session, not to
- mention the keeping up with materials and rentals used and how many
- vocalist were used for how much, AND the maintenance log. Sometimes
- things don't get fixed for the simple reason it takes too much
- precious time to find the log and turn to the right page and write
- down what's wrong. It all adds up to TIME... costly TIME!
- All of this mindless running around takes time and is straining
- the energy out of you needlessly.
-
- STUDIO PLUS is designed to be used in the same manner as an engineer
- uses his daily log book, maintenance log book, notepads and
- tracksheets, and acounting department, except with STUDIO PLUS it's
- all right in front of you, neatly organized so you can access all
- of the above features quickly, which makes it easier for you to
- lay back... and be creative.

- Co-Author,
- Pat Taylor

- for the enhancements as available and any necessary phone support.
- Your requests for new features will be appreciated and considered.
-
- A word about user supported software:
-
- The user supported software concept (usually referred to as shareware)
- is an attempt to provide software at low cost. The cost of offering a
- new product by conventional means is staggering, and hence dissuades
- many independent authors and small companies from developing and
- promoting their ideas. User supported software is an attempt to
- develop a new marketing channel, where products can be introduced at
- low cost.
-
- If user supported software works, then everyone will benefit. The
- user will benefit by receiving quality products at low cost, and by
- being able to "test drive" software thoroughly before purchasing it.
- The author benefits by being able to enter the commercial software
- arena without first needing large sources of venture capital.
-
- But it can only work with your support. We're not just talking about
- STUDIO PLUS here, but about all user supported software. If you find
- that you are still using a program after 10 days, then it is
- obviously worth something to you, and you should send in your
- registration fee.

-
- General Usage Page 4
-
-
-
- Starting STUDIO PLUS:
- To load Studio Plus simply type 'PLUS' at the DOS prompt.
- Highlight one of the following selections (or press the
- first letter of the selection).
-
- STUDIO MANAGER:
- Studio Manager takes all of the studio & maintenance logbooks
- which an engineer uses daily and makes them easier to use.
- It puts them in a central location so there's no running
- around looking for anything. It stores and retrieves
- information quickly and reliably. It keeps up with client
- and artist information, studio hours, materials used, rental
- instruments, vocalists, and keeps a maintanence log. All of the
- information can be either viewed on screen or sent to printer.
-
- TRACK MANAGER:
- Track Manager makes it simple to find a tracksheet out of
- thousands of songtitles, something that if you were looking
- by hand could take forever. It keeps up with the Songtitle,
- format of the tape, location of the song on tape, which tape
- the song is on, the names of the individual tracks, and has a
- notes page for any other information that you want to enter.
- There is a report so that you can find out which songtitles are
- listed in the database.
-
- PHONE/ADDRESS BOOK:
- A phonebook and address book for quick access to emergency #'s,
- maintenance #'s, musicians #'s, or any #'s you wish to access.
-
- CALENDAR:
- A calendar to keep up with daily appointments such as sessions,
- business meetings, lunchen dates, etc..
-
- ON-LINE MANUAL:
- Capability to view this user documentation on-line.
-
- EXIT TO DOS:
- Quit Studio Plus and return to DOS.
-
- The following instructions work the same in both Studio
- Manager and Track Manager for the exception that Track
- Manager has less pages.
-
- To select any item on a menu you can either type the identifying
- letter to the left of the selection, or cursor down to
- highlight the selection using the arrow keys.
-
-
-
- Data Entry Page 5
-
-
-
- ADD Procedure:
- Select 'ADD'. A prompt will appear asking for the database name.
- Type any name of up to eight characters or letters for the
- database name and press <ENTER>. If the database does not exist,
- a prompt will appear, and ask if you want to create it. Press 'Y',
- and the primary screen will appear. After entering the
- information on the first screen, you can either <ESC> to the
- menu or <PgDn> to go on to the next screen. If you choose to
- continue, enter the information in the miscellaneous screens.
- <PgDn> = NEXT screen, <PgUp> = PREVIOUS screen, and <ESC> will
- return you to the menu. If any editing is required,
- select 'UPDATE' and correct the necessary fields.
-
-
- UPDATE Procedure:
- Select 'UPDATE'. A prompt will appear asking for the database name.
- Type any name of up to eight characters or letters for the
- database name and press <ENTER>. If the database does not exist,
- a prompt will appear, and ask if you want to create it. Press 'Y',
- and the primary screen of the FIRST ENTRY will appear. Use the
- arrow keys to move from field to field, updating the information
- and pressing <ENTER> after editing. The <F10> key will take you
- to the miscellaneous screens at which point <PgDn> = NEXT screen,
- <PgUp> = PREVIOUS screen, and <ESC> will return you to the menu.
-
- SEARCH CAPABILITY:
- The <F1> key is a search function that lets you find an artist
- or a session date quickly by typing in just enough of the name
- to identify the artist name or session date. The criteria
- used will depend on the current 'sort' mode (see below). Two
- or three letters of the artist name should be enough to
- identify the correct artist.
-
- The Search function works on any page, so you can change files
- while on any screen. However, this does not apply when in the
- ADD mode because SEARCH looks for a record that is already
- in memory, where as in ADD you are in the process of entering
- information which 'will be saved' when you leave the ADD mode.
-
- STOP WATCH:
- The <F5> key activates the Stop Watch. The space bar starts
- and stops the Stop Watch. Press <ESC> to exit Stop Watch.
-
- CALCULATOR:
- The <F6> key activates the Calculator. Use like normal calcu-
- lator. Press <ESC> to exit Calculator.
-
-

- Data Entry (cont) Page 6
-
-
-
- DELETE Procedure:
- Use the <F1> key to search for the record that you want to
- delete or browse through all records using the <PgUp> and
- <PgDn> keys. When the desired record is showing, press <D>
- and a prompt will appear asking if you want to delete the
- present record. If you do, press <Y> for yes, or <N> for no
- if you made a mistake.
- NOTE: If you have already pressed <D> and <Y> and DELETED is
- showing on the screen (and you haven't left the delete screen),
- you may RECALL the record by pressing <D> again and answering
- <Y> for yes. This is a TOGGLE function that deletes first and
- then recalls records with the same commands( <D> & <Y>.
- When you are through "marking" the records you desire to be
- deleted press <ESC> and the prompt will ask you to wait while
- the program is deleting the records that you marked. You will
- then return to the menu.
-
- SORTED BY...:
- This selection will "toggle" between ARTIST and DATE. The UPDATE,
- DELETE, and REPORT functions will follow the current order. This
- is useful when it may be easier to find a client's information
- one way than the other.
-
- REPORTS:
- 1) Where to send the report.
- First decide whether you want the report directed to the
- screen or printer. The program defaults to the screen, so if
- you want to just view the report on the screen just leave it
- alone, otherwise press "C" or arrow key down and highlight
- the screen or printer toggle function. Everytime you press
- <ENTER> or "C" the prompt changes from screen to printer.
- So toggle the prompt to printer and press <ENTER>.
-
- 2) Which report and from which database.
- If you press "R" from the Menu screen, the report menu will
- appear. Select the report you desire to use and highlight it
- by using the arrow keys and then press <ENTER>.
- A window will show a prompt asking for the database name.
- The current database will already be visable. If the report
- is to be from the current database, simply press <ENTER>,
- there is no need to retype the database name.
- The desired report will be executed.
-
- PASTE:
- This function ONLY works in Tracksheet Manager. It is a stamp
- of the last track typed. It's purpose is to save time when
- repeating the same thing you just typed.
- Example: Track 1) Kick
- Track 2) Big Fat Snare
-
- Notice that track 2, "Big Fat Snare" takes 14 key strokes to enter.
- For a quicker way, press <F5> and the last track entered will
- be pasted in as shown below:
- Track 3) Big Fat Snare
-
-
