- PEXTRACT utility instructions:
-
- This utility extracts a text file from a PLAYLIST database file.
- To use, enter the command:
-
- PEXTRACT <database filename> [<music type>]
-
- ...where <database filename> is the name of an existing PLAYLIST
- database file and <music type> is an optional music type number, starting
- with 1. A new text file will be generated from the database file using
- the same base name with a .TXT extension, in the following format:
-
- va\vt\vm\vi\sa\st\sm\sy\mm:ss\nn
- va\vt\vm\vi\sa\st\sm\sy\mm:ss\nn
- va\vt\vm\vi\sa\st\sm\sy\mm:ss\nn
- (etc. - one line for each selection entry)
-
- The following definitions apply to the above:
-
- va = volume artist's name
- vt = volume title
- vm = volume media type
- vi = volume location index number
-
- sa = selection artist's name
- st = selection title
- sm = selection music type
- sy = year of selection
- mm = minutes
- ss = seconds
- nn = selection number (on or in the volume)
-
-
- Example commands:
-
- To extract a text file called MUSIC.TXT from MUSIC.LDB, enter:
-
- PEXTRACT MUSIC
-
- To extract only those selections with the music type listed
- third in PLAYLIST's user-defined music type F1 listing (i.e.,
- this would correspond to "Folk" music in the example database
- library provided), enter:
-
- PEXTRACT MUSIC 3
-
- NOTE: The music type option was provided primarily to support
- a secondary effect that may be encountered to due PLAYLIST's
- new YEAR feature. In the previous versions, the example
- database contained the music type "Oldie". Since the year
- information is better at defining just what an "oldie" is,
- one might want to replace an existing "Oldie" music type
- with one or more other music types. By using PEXTRACT
- together with PLMERGE and a bit of fancy text editing,
- it's relatively easy to change "Oldie" to something else
- instead of revising each such selection via PLAYLIST.
