MAKEMUS2 ia an ANSI music writer/editor.
MUSIC.CFG is the configuration file for MAKEMUS2. You may
alter this file with an ASCII editor.
MUSIC.OUT is the default output file used by MAKEMUS1.
DVED is a full screen ASCII editor.
PLAYANSI enables you to listen to ANSI music in local mode.
It also tells you which line has errors.
PLAY is another ANSI music player which has no error indicators.
COLORTST will help you decide on the colors you wish to use as your
screen colors.
Set the colors in MUSIC.CFG
The main benefit of MAKEMUS is that you hear each note as
you create it. The note is of the duration and octave of
how it will be stored in the output file. At any time you may
listen to the line you are creating or to the music stored
in the output file or access a full-screen editor to alter
those lines previously saved in MUSIC.OUT.
MAKEMUS integrates several programs together in order to give
the user the best ANSI music editor available in the realm of
shareware. The configuration file lets you choose which
full-screen editor you wish to use as well as the
screen colors, message delay time, output file name, and
which local ANSI music player you want to use.
The note keys are laid out the same as one piano octave.
The C key is the note C, all the other keys are properly
set above and below this reference point.

The Configuration file.
The configuration file is named MUSIC.CFG.
If it does not exist, the program will create it for you
when it is run. The order if the lines are critical.
The default config. file will look like this.
MUSIC.OUT/ ; OUTPUT MUSIC FILE
DVED/ ; ASCII EDITOR (OR SHELL/ TO SHELL)
PLAYANSI/ ; ANSI MUSIC PLAYER
1000/ ; ERROR MESSAGE DELAY (0=NO DELAY, 5000=LONG DELAY)
15/ ; FOREGROUND COLOR
1/ ; BACKGROUND COLOR
The output music file is the file to which MAKEMUS appends
(adds to the end) its output.
The editor is the full screen editor which is used when F1 is
pressed. You may use an other, but it must be an ASCII editor
that will accept the name of the file to edit as part of the
command line. If you place a "SHELL/" in this field, the
program will shell when F1 is pressed.
The ANSI music player is the program which enables you to
listen to ANSI music in local mode. PLAY.EXE works well, but
PLAYANSI.EXE has the ability to flag any line which has an
error in it.
The error message delay sets the duration of how long any
message will be displayed. Depending on the speed of your
machine, you may want to adjust the delay to give yourself
time to read the message.
The foreground and background colors may be set using the last
two entries in the config. file. You can run COLORTST.EXE to
see which number is associated with which color. The default
is white letters on a blue background.
NOTE: Remember to place the delimiter "/" after the end of
each field.
Do not include any blank lines between the data lines.
You may precede or conclude the file with a few blank
lines if you wish.
The Function keys:
F1- EDIT - This key will call a full-screen editor which will
permit you to edit the output file as a whole. This is
how you would alter a line of music after it has been
saved to the file.
F2- set T - This is used to set the TEMPO (Notes per minute). This
must be initialized each time the program is started
along with L and O.
F3- set L - This is used to set the LENGTH of each note. L=4 is
about rite for most music.
F4- set O - This is the initial OCTAVE of where you will play.
F5- Play L - This plays the present line of music of which you are
writing.
F6- Save - This saves the line of music you were working on in
the file MUSIC.OUT. Once the line is saved, you may keep
it and add to it or clear it and create a new line.
F7- Play F - This key calls the ANSI music player which then plays
the entire contents of MUSIC.OUT. This is handy if you
want to hear what you have created thus far.
F8- del Fl - This deletes the file MUSIC.OUT to give you a clean
file to send data to. Verification of intent is preformed
before deletion.
F9- EXIT - Exit the program.
F10- CLEAR - Clears the present line of music.
P - Insert a pause (rest) in the music.
O - Insert a "." which increases the length of the note of which
it follows.
I or > - Shifts octave up one step. \
I suggest using U and I.
U or < - Shifts octave down one step./
numbers 1 to 9 are used to adjust the length of a note. (Kind of
like a temporary change of L.
<Backspace> while creating music to remove the last character in
the line. This lets you try a note, and change it if you need to.
