- Introduction:
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
- Congratulations on selecting Disc-O-File Plus V5.01.
- We believe you will be pleased with this innovative program.
- We have made it as simple and intuitive to use as possible.
- The recording format has changed over the years; from the
- early '78's, to '45's, to LP's and Cassettes and now Compact
- Discs. Consequently, extensive libraries have evolved. But
- where is "that" particular song by "what" artist - "who"
- else recorded the same song. Disc-O-File helps organize
- your personal collection according to format, category,
- album, artist, song, track time etc. making it easy to
- retrieve a particular selection from your music library.
- Disc-O-File is a "user-friendly" menu driven cataloging system
- for keeping track of your entire music library; Cassettes,
- Compact Discs, Digital Audio Tapes, Records and Tapes.
-
- Just a few of the features of Disc-O-File Plus V5.01 are:
- - Add album and song data quickly and easily.
- - Change any data in any field, including indexes.
- - Calculates the album time field from the track time field.
- - Delete any song or album from your library.
- - Print reports in several different formats.
- - Browse through your library, forward and backward.
- - Perform quick searches for artist, index or song.
- - Reorganize (compress) your library for efficiency.
- - Recover damaged data bases.
- - Convert prior versions to the new V5.01 format.
-
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- Installation:
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- As with all features of Disc-O-File Plus, installation is as
- simple as possible. Simply insert the distribution disk in
- drive A or B, type INSTALL and press ENTER. INSTALL creates
- a directory on your C drive named "\DOF" and un-compresses
- the Disc-O-File files to it. The rest is automatic.
-
- To install Disc-O-File to another directory, copy file
- "DOF5ZIP.EXE" from the distribution disk to that directory.
- Type DOF5ZIP and press ENTER. The Disc-O-File files will be
- "exploded" by this self-extracting file.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- Minimum Requirements for running Disc-O-File Plus:
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- - One floppy drive, one hard drive
- - 470K ram available (Important).
- - Minimum FILES=15 in CONFIG.SYS file (see DOS manual)
- - DOF.EXE (Disc-O-File)
- - Mouse is optional
- - Printer is optional
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- Files created by Disc-O-File Plus:
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- - D500INDX INDEX data
- - D500INDX.IDX INDEX indexes
- - D500ARTS ARTIST data
- - D500ARTS.IDX ARTIST indexes
- - D500SONG SONG and TRACK data
- - D500SONG.IDX SONG and TRACK indexes
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- Running Disc-O-File Plus V5.01
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- Running Disc-O-File is simplicity itself.
- Type DOF {C} at the DOS prompt and hit ENTER. The "C" switch
- is optional. If used, all data entered is converted to upper
- case. Don't type the brackets. This feature is recommended
- to ensure consistency in your data. If, for example, you
- entered a song as "Strangers In The Night" with mixed case
- letters, searching for "NIGHT" would not find the song. If
- the "C" switch had been set, it would since all letters
- entered are converted to capitals including the search
- characters. The choice is yours.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- Converting Earlier Release Data Bases:
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- If you are currently running Disc-O-File V4.00 or an earlier
- version, you must convert your data bases to the new format
- used by V5.01. To do this run program CNVT500.EXE from the
- directory where you have installed V5.01. Your earlier
- version files must be in the same directory. Type CNVT500 at
- the DOS prompt and hit ENTER. Follow the instructions on the
- screen or in the HELP window.
-

- In Case Of Difficulty
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- When working with any indexed files on any computer, care should be
- taken not to "damage" your files. Damage or corruption can occur from
- many causes. If, for example, you turn off your computer while
- accessing an indexed file, the index pointers could be destroyed.
- Other common causes for damaged files are power surges, viruses,
- other software, or even unintentional deletion of the index files.
- If you encounter any unexplainable events with your data you should
- run the FIXFILES.BAT program included with Disc-O-File Plus V5.01.
- This procedure will attempt to recover the corrupted or damaged data
- bases. Do not reset the computer while this process is executing.
- Upon successful completion of the FIXFILES program you should run
- Disc-O-File and select "I) Compress Data Bases" from the Main Menu.
- This will return your data bases to their proper condition.
