Installation of the DW6000 editor / librarian is quite easy.
FIRST, MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR DISK! Replacement disks, if they
are needed, will be charged shipping and handling!
If you have a hard drive, get to the drive that you want the
program to be installed on.
Example: C:\>
Type PROMPT $P$G to get the subdirectory information on the
screen if you haven't done it at boot time.
Next, if you want to make a subdirectory, type MD DW6000 and
press <Enter>.
Example: C:\DW6000>
Finally, place this disk in your floppy drive, then copy your
files from that drive.
Examples: COPY A:*.* -OR-
COPY B:*.*
That's all there is to it. No funny stuff!
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This program will work quite nicely on a floppy drive, although
it may run a bit slower. If you have only a 360k drive, you might
want to copy the documentation onto another disk and keep the program
files on your working copy. Refer to your DOS manual when in need of
COPY commands or BACKUP. This program is not "bound" to any drive.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This program does require a CGA, EGA, VGA or better monitor that
can display 4 colors at any one time (CGA mode) in order to display
the envelope graphs on the screen.

[F1]=Help Select DW6000 Function
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The Main Menu is the first screen you will see when you run the
DW6000 program. This is the "control panel" for working with the
program.
The <Up> and <Down> arrow keys will move the highlight over the
options in the menu. You can also type the highlighted letter of
each option to move the highlight over that option. The option will
be selected when you press <Enter>.
At any time, if you are unsure of what the option does, press
the <F1> function key and a help screen will display information
pertaining to that option. The Info option will only work when you
press <F1>. <Enter> has no effect on Info.

The Receive option will allow you to download a full bank of 64
patches from the DW6000. The patches will be stored in RAM and will
not be written to disk until you select Save from the Main Menu. At
the present time, you can only have one bank of patches in memory at
one time.
Pressing the <F10> function key will initiate the download from
the DW6000. You will see the current patch being stored as the
program proceeds. All other keys will exit to the Main Menu.

If the download from the DW6000 was successful, you should see
this displayed on your screen. At this point, hit any key to return
to the Main Menu.
At this point, the patches have no names. They were given all
generic names, like Patch 11, Patch 33, etc. Remember if you do
a download, the names from the DW6000 will all be generic. This means
you will have to work with a disk based file to keep your names in
a meaningful order. The DW6000 doesn't recognize patch names. They
were included for your sanity...
If you received an error message, please check your midi cables /
patcher / etc. for possible problems. When you correct the problem,
you may return here to download.

This is the data entry screen for your patches. This is the only
place where you can adjust any of the patch data.
Here's a breakdown of the function keys:
<F1> - Context sensitive help on ANY of the fields displayed on
the screen
<F2> - This will display the allowed keystrokes on this screen
<F5> - This will display your VCF and VCA envelopes if you have
a CGA or better color monitor. If you don't have a color
monitor, the program will sneak a peek to find out what
type of monitor you have. If incompatible, you will not
be able to display graphs. The graphs are displayed in
CGA mode only. The graph is updated every time the <F5>
function key is pressed. This will rewrite the RAM
memory location with your work.

───────────────────────────────────────────
<F9> - If you have your DW6000 hooked up to an amp or headphones
you will be able to listen to the sound you are working
on. The program will display "Audition" in the center of
the screen. A Middle "C" will play. When you've had
enough, hit any kit to stop the DW6000 from playing. The
sound is updated every time you press the <F9> function
key. Patch 88 is temporarily overwritten and then placed
back correctly when audition is over. This will rewrite
the RAM memory location with your work.
<F10> - This will rewrite the RAM memory location with your work
in progress. This is a way to make sure your changes have
been kept. This DOESN'T write the patch to disk. You
have to Save the bank in order to do that.
<ESC> - This will stop this option and exit back to the Main Menu.
──> If you enter values for fields that are invalid, an error
message will be displayed. You will the need to change
that value before you can proceed.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
For further information pertaining to the parameters found on
this data entry screen, please refer to your DW6000 user's manual
or check out the context sensitive help for each field. This will
get you through, but you really need to understand the parameters
themselves to get any production from the DW6000 synth.

The Print option will allow you to print patches from the current
bank you have in memory. You will have to enter a beginning patch
number and an ending patch number. If you only want to print 1 patch
then enter the same number twice.
You will be prompted to set up your printer. It doesn't matter
if your are printing to a parallel or serial printer. It is up to
you though to redirect your output to the serial COM port you are to
use. The program will not check for printer readiness either.
Once your printer is set up, hit any key and the patches will
then start to print.
──> The patch charts print on a full page, one patch per page.
──> You don't need to set up special fonts for the patch charts.
They do not print special ASCII characters, only the "-", "|",
and "*" characters for borders.

handy if someone has no computer but has some DW6000 patches to work
with. It could be an archival system for someone who has no computer.

The Info option will just pop up a help screen and let you know
what the program is, how to contact me, and display credits to the
companies that helped make the DW6000 program possible.
And here we go!
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If you find this program useful and wish to purchase the full
featured version (if this the Demo version), a registration fee of
$25.00 (US) is required for the full featured version of the program.
The registered program will allow you to save to the DW6000 and to
disk. This will also allow you to receive a free upgrade, when the
next one is written. Any comments on this program, possible enhance-
ments, or just plain good ideas should be made by writing to me or by
calling this phone number --- (518) 438-3656. Be kind to my answering
machine. Doesn't like rowdy callers...
