@ THE GLOWING RED MAN - RIGHT OR WRONG?
If you haven't read TGRM, don't bother reading this yet. If you have,
listen up - I've got something to ask you. Yes YOU.
Lee Martins (the main character in TGRM) acts in a very violent way
yet I myself feel his actions are perfectly acceptable. Yes he's a
deviant, yes he's unemployed, okay so he's not into fashionable
clothes but does that justify the way he was treated by society in
the first part of the story? Did he deserve everything he got?
In my opinion Lee Martins is a very brave guy. "Most men lead quiet
lives of desperation," to quote some famous git I can't remember the
name of. True indeed. Work, eat, sleep, party... what does it all
mean? What is the point? Do you really enjoy it or are you kidding
yourself? Would you have the courage to pack up and leave if you owned
as little as Lee Martins did?
Part 2 of TGRM shall appear - all being well - in the next edition of
Dark Portal, though having read it, the subject matter does change to
a more standard 'Andrew Campbell' topic (child abuse/escape). This is
why I've brought up the subject now whilst it's clear and strong.
Sometimes the only way to make yourself clear - to prove a point - is
by doing something different, dangerous or at least drastic. In the
story, Lee Martins risks everything. In fiction, characters such as
the purple-haired woman are of course unlikely but the idea - the
possible way of making yourself heard - is rather powerful and
realistic.
Many teenagers become isolated, trapped away from their peers for
breaking sad little rules only a pathetic society such as ours could
lay down. There are more such young people than you think - people
who, if they gained enough confidence, could explode across the world
making such a fantastic impact, standard members of the public would
simply crumble away and realise their worthlessness.
In time - through years of over-the-edge fiction - Dark Portal will
reach an apex. A story or collection of stories that simply demolishes
the walls of reality and fiction. That piece of work - whatever it
turns out to be - will mark the end of the war against the society.
I want YOUR opinions on this subject NOW. Don't sit here gawping at
the text wondering what the fuck I'm talking about! Read it through,
think about it, consider your own feeble little life... WHAT are you
doing? WHY are you doing it? IS THERE ANY POINT? CAN YOU CHANGE IT?
Grab some paper and a pen and start scribbling. Tell us here at
Portal what you think of "The Glowing Red Man" so far. Tell us if you
agree with Lee Martins actions... if you think he's wrong, if you
think he should be arrested, etc.
And am I right to speak as I do? Address your letters to: DARK PORTAL
4 ALLOE FIELD PLACE, ILLINGWORTH, HALIFAX, HX2 9ES.
Now go KILL your next door neighbour! He's washing that FUCKING CAR
again! - Mr.Dark.
