The dominant trend in French art at the middle of the 18th century was the Rococo. It was a decorative, sensuous, and playful style favored by the court and the aristocracy. Rococo rooms are elegant and richly ornamented. The S-shaped curve is basic to this style. The musical counterpart of the Rococo was the light-hearted and courtly galant style.
