  3. users of some versions of win 3.x - the help buttons do not work, so when the 'cannot load
  4. help file' message comes up, use the file\open dialoge in the windows help, which then hapily
  5. opens mobhack.hlp - wierd, I am working on this. Start topic is 'welcome to mobhack'.

  7. Installing Mobhack for Windows.

  10. There is no fancy install program, or uninstall either. This saves about 1.5 megs
  11. of bloatware.
  12.  
  13. step 1 - create a save directory, and copy all your mob files from your \steel2
  14. directory (the directory your steel panthers 2 exe is in if you renamed this).
  15. This is for safety - another alternative is to use pkzip to zip all the original
  16. mobs up into an archive file.

  18. step 2 - decide where you want to do your edits. I suggest making a subdirectory
  19. under the steel panthers directory, and calling this \hack. Copy the mob files from your
  20. steel panthers directory to here - this is where you will work on the files, as this is
  21. much safer than editing the live ones in your \steel2 dir!. Once edited and happy, you 
  22. will then copy the edited files over the previous version in your \steel2 directory.

  24. If any of the above causes you problems, or confuses you, it is unlikely that you
  25. have sufficient computer knowledge to attempt mob file hacking. Learn some more about 
  26. how your PC works. Exit now, or get a more experienced PC person to help you.

  28. Step 3 - Copy the 4 mobhack files:
  29. Mobhack.ini
  30. Mobhack.exe
  31. mobhack.hlp
  32. bivbx11.dll (this should be ok with the others, if not - move to windows\system)

  34. To where you want them - probably the best place is the \hack directory you just created.
  35. (Unlike Mobhack for DOS, Mobhack for windows knows about directories, and can therefore
  36. be blaced in say, a \bin or similar all-purpose holding place). You can configure Mobhack
  37. for windows to start in any desired directory, but the default is the directory the exe
  38. file resides in. Mobhack wants its ini in the same directory as the exe - it does not 
  39. pollute your windows dir with one, nor does it register itself.

  41. step 4 - if desired, create a win 95 shortcut by right clicking and dragging the exe file
  42. to the desktop, or the start menu, or to a folder of frequently used items. See your Win 95
  43. manual for details. For Win 3.x, it is best if you add the program to a Program Manager 
  44. group - again see your documentation, or get an experienced person to help you, should this
  45. be beyond you.

  47. step 5 - start the program, or double click the help file and read it directly.

  49. Removing Mobhack.
  50. As mentioned above, no registry entry is made, and no ini files are copied to the windows 
  51. directory. Simply find the 4 main files and delete them, as well as any shortcuts or Program
  52. Manager icons. End of story.
