Detailed help for ~c1~Gapwar Tiles~c15~.
Gapwar Tiles are like jigsaw puzzles except that color is used to join
two pieces instead of an interlocking dovetail mechanism. There are
several different types of Gapwar Tile Puzzles. The most important
feature of a Gapwar Tile is whether it is TRIANGULAR or SQUARE.
TRIANGULAR tiles are made up of 4 triangles. Solve TRIANGULAR
Gapwar puzzles by matching 'both' border colors to remove the 'GAP'.
SQUARE tiles consist of 4 smaller squares. Solve SQUARE Gapwar
puzzles by matching all 4 colors on the border to remove the 'GAP'.
.p
There are two basic operations one may perform on a Gapwar Tile.
You may either select a Gapwar Tile and swap it with another Gapwar
Tile, or you may rotate (if allowed) a single Gapwar Tile. Rotation is
not always available. If rotation is available the 'Left' mouse button
will allow the rotation and the 'Right' mouse button will allow the select
and swap. If no rotation is available both mouse buttons will allow the
select and swap.
When a tile is selected it 'shrinks'. When you click on another tile, then
it will 'swap' with the last tile selected. Rotation of a selected tile will
leave the selected tile still selected. Rotation of any unselected tile
causes the selected tile to become unselected.
The Gapwar Tile Puzzle is solved when all black 'Gaps' are removed
and all the colors match.
.p
There are also more sophisticated Gapwar Tile Puzzles.
There are 'Border Patrol' puzzles where some of the rotations are done
for you. There are 'Five of a Kind' puzzles with a fifth color in the center
of the piece. There are 'Double Trouble' puzzles where each piece
has eight areas (4 inside and 4 outside) and both colors need to match.
Sometimes not all pieces are swapable or rotatable. There is also the
'Negative Thinking' puzzles where the object is to not match the colors.
In all the different GAPWAR TILE PUZZLES the object is the same.....
.......remove all of the black 'Gaps'.
When confused about a particular type of Gapwar Puzzle -- Try using
the Solve key and watch how the pieces act when selected/swapped
or rotated.
