Starting the game:
To begin the game, just type HSBJ at the DOS prompt. If you find that the
computer is flashing messages at you too quickly or too slowly (displays them
aggravatingly long), you can also set a delay from the command line. The delay
defaults to 200. Anything more than 200 makes the messages be displayed slower
and anything less makes them be displayed faster. This is so people with
different speeds of machines may still enjoy the game. Set the delay at the
DOS command line as follows: HSBJ XXX where XXX is a number to replace the
default delay.
Rules of BlackJack:
The objective is to get a higher count than your opponent (the dealer in this
game - the computer) without going over 21. If either player goes over 21,
that player "busts," the game ends, and the other player wins. If a player
gets exactly 21, he has "BlackJack" and automatically wins the game. To have
the dealer "hit you" justs means asking him to give you another card. If you
have, say, a 19 total, and you don't want to have the dealer hit you because
you will most likely go over 21, you can decide to "stay" and wait for the
dealer to finish, or vice versa. You could also risk it and have him hit you
if you think you can get a two or an ace. Speaking of aces, if you get dealed
an ace, you get to make it one of two things: worth 1 point, or worth 11
points. It's a special card in BlackJack. Cards 2-10 are worth their face
value. The Jack, Queen, and King are all worth 10 each. If both players stay,
they flip their cards over and see who came closest to 21. That person wins.
It's really quite simple.
How to use the program:
All of the prompts are really quite obvious and very easy to follow. Let me
just explain the betting. We're assuming you have $500 in your pocket when
you begin your first game. You can use this, or part of it, to bet on each
game of BlackJack and try to win more.
About this game:
This game is shareware. If you play it, you must register it with the
author, myself. ("Register" means to give the author a usually small fee for
his time and work writing, distributing, supporting, and improving the share-
ware.) As with most of my shareware programs, I request a mere five dollars.
For this I will send you a disk with the registered version of BlackJack on
it, along with other shareware releases from HeliX Software for you to try,
and you get free upgrades in the future along with periodic new product
notices. To register, send five dollars ($5.00) in check or money order to:

Thank you for your support, and enjoy the game. (Pass it around, too!)
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE A COLOR MONITOR/CARD D/L HSBJ.ZIP FOR A COLOR VERSION OF
BLACKJACK!
