AUGUST 10 1861
Union forces commanded by General Lyon, are defeated
at Wilson's Creek, Missouri, by General McCulloch.
The battle started with the Union troops attacking
and over-running several Confederate camps and
advanced to the crest of a hill, now known as Bloody
Hill. Southern Artillery fire halted the Union advance
and gave time for the South to assemble on the south
slope.
The following battle for Bloody Hill lasted for over
five hours and resulted in the Union force falling
back. General Lyon was killed during the fight,
leading a charge.
